. Yea, those mostly sunny skies are warming things up. 61 in the city. If it wasn't going to be rainy and cloudy tomorrow, the city would definitely have hit 70.Dtone wrote:Temps are overachieving for some. More sun than expected? I'm at 60..

Hit 63* over here. I'll take it, the cold will be back soon enough.
Those with more persistent snow cover probably lost a few degrees.

Re: December 2013 Observations & Discussions
Its already up to 67 in Central Park, easily setting a new record for today.
Its only 56 at LGA though.
Wide temp spread today. Just east of Manhattan temps tumble.
Im at 60 in the middle of the Bx. much cooler just slightly east.
Its 70 in Yonkers but upper 50s in New Rochelle.

Record high temps al lover the place - Zoo I shut my heat off yesterday - giving the old furnace (well it is only 10 years old) a little break from the last few weeks of cold - getting ready for the the onslaught of Jan cold!!
I am at 65* - went up two degrees in the last half hour - the snow pack is gone - all gone

Dec record highs being tied or set before sunrise is pretty remarkable.
DC reached the 70's before sunrise, possibly a first.

Definitely a record for today in most of the east. I wonder whats the warmest day on records. My only concern is Weather channel's January forecast. They predicted that most of the country will be warm, with exception of like 2 states.

Ridgewood was a perfect Christmas village. Snow everywhere but still passable for the roads and stores. Beauty and convenience. A Christmas postcard. And now .....
My wife has asked me to tell Frank that she is very annoyed with the weather gods. Maybe he could pass that on to them.

Ugh, I used to work in ridgewood and still go there. Hate the traffic on ridgewood avenue. And sorry if I'm repeating myself but everytime I post here on my phone it never works the first time. The only concerning thing I saw the weather channel posting their january forecast, it was warmth for most of the country with the exception of 2 states. Their December forecast predicted a cold December for most of the US but warmth for the area of Texas as other parts of the south. They were wrong about that since Texas had a cold December. Florida as Georgia were warmer. Let's see how their january forecast turns out. Sorry for typos. On the phone again.

Later this week it will be buzzing as we start to get ready for the onslaught of winter - I hope as per the LR models - that PV is going to be impressive- let's hope not too strong.

Re: December 2013 Observations & Discussions
I wouldn't be surprised to see snow showers Christmas Day or Christmas Eve night. Strong vort is coming through the area, could form an inverted trough and spawn snow showers.

Wow, what a torch! Talk about a thaw, this warm weather blasted the snowpack away.Anyhoo, it was nice having the snow on the ground for a while before Christmas.Saw people yesterday in shorts and tee shirts, fer crying out loud!
Some talk at NWS of snow showers tomorrow with cold temps.Hey, at least it will feel like Christmas with the cold and maybe we can get lucky with a coating from the snow showers.

Re: December 2013 Observations & Discussions
Close to an all time high for any December date. I heard it was the 4th warmest December day ever in CPK, 3 days before Christmas that's just depressing. My snowpack was no match for that, by Sunday afternoon my white Christmas dreams had all melted.
There's always next year.

Re: December 2013 Observations & Discussions
Frank mentioned this before, but with the strong vort moving through Tuesday into Wed, models have been picking up on a small area of accumulating snows(coating to a inch) where the light precipitation associated with the vort, moves over. Models seem to have a agreement that it is most likely to move over Eastern PA, Northern NJ, through NYC and into LI. Surface temps will likely be cold enough, so some are in a possible white Christmas....

Very true. I just can't get my mind to think about snow until the temp drops out of the 60's. I think its been in the 60's for like 36 straight hours in New York City. Pretending this was all a bad dream. I hate these warm spells, especially around the holidays. Oh well at least it should be nice and brisk for Christmas! Enjoy the holidays everyone!

I lived in Florida for three years, you kind of remind me of Florida. I got used to it, down there in Florida people have a lot of Christmas spirit and no Christmas weather.

12z GFS shifts the LP on the 29th a good bit west clipping the area with light rain showers. Most of the other guidance keeps the system off shore with no impact.
