December 10th, 2013 Snow Map
I have to talk about the timing. This is going to start sooner than I originally thought. The time table below is from west to east. So if you live in the west, say around eastern PA, your more near the first hour of the time table.
6 am to 8 am - Light snow breaks out
8 am to 10 am - Persistent light snow is falling
10 am to Noon - Snow becomes moderate
Noon to 4 pm - Moderate to heavy snow is falling
4 pm to 10 pm - Snow gradually lightens
10 - 10:30 pm - Storm ends
Remember we will hold a chat tonight at 9 pm to see if the models continue showing these type of snowfall amounts, maybe they go even higher? Hope to see you all there.
I also thought it was very premature of ABC7 to have a think strip of 6+ inches of snow. It's hard to pinpoint down where banding sets up.

I just noticed this: with the storm looming, this board went to 105 active users, which broke the record of 92 active users from February 6th (with the approach of "Nemo")
And on that snow map made by WABC-TV that Al posted, I am in the "Locally 6" band

I like the map Frank, only thing I would change is having toms river north included in the 5+ Band.

From your mouth to Mother Nature's ears Frank.
Indeed, putting 6" on any map at this point is getting ahead of things. Great if it happens, but looks like over hyping if it busts.

Frank any mixing issues on long island? I was surprised seeing the highest amounts there.

Just so we're all on the same page. My call is 2-4 for pretty much everyone in our area. The only reason I included the yellow shading was to account for the possibility of a band setting up somewhere over the area that could bring amounts north of 4 inches.

Soundings along the shore points are showing surface above freezing actually and they don't crash until 1pm.

Immediate coast and southern shore of Long Island could see mixing due to the unorganized state of the surface low and the warm SST's from the ocean. But I don't see it being a major problem. Maybe a 1 hour period of mixing.

Im expecting some mixing by me in south nassau. But i get some enhanced bands off the ocean sometimes which should fall as snow.

I like the map...and yes i'm going more bullish...I do think theres a sharper cutoff nw of lets say Westchester. Not that there wont be snow nw of there, there just wont be much.
