12/14 Storm in Review
A pretty thrilling storm to say the least, with a lot of uncertainty surrounding how far north the rain / snow would get. As it turned out, the High Pressure to our north turned out to be stronger than the storm itself, which allowed for the cold air to remain entrenched over our area longer. As a result, more snow fell in most locations than what some TV Mets, including myself, had thought.
This map is not always accurate, and I'm pretty sure this was after the rain last night. But you can see northeast PA and areas north of NYC did well. Central NJ got some good banding that resulted in high snowfall rates. It was a high-ratio snowfall due to the very cold air mass that was over our area prior to the storm. Once the surface warmed, we started seeing more sleet / freezing rain than a change to plain rain.
The final call snow map worked out for most. The area it did not work out for was the Philly metro area, where only an inch or 2 fell, and south shore of Long Island. The 3-6 should have been extended to include all of Long Island. For others, it went as planned.
The next system is a clipper on Tuesday that is likely to benefit areas only north of NYC, then the pattern takes a break. Which is fine by me...we could use one then get back into it after Christmas.

Post pictures in here if you'd like. Also, don't forget to update your signatures on how much snow you've gotten thus far this year. I have to update mine as well.

I just looked the daily hydrologic reports. it said that central park had 5'' of snow and 1.45'' of liquid. that means central park had about an inch of rain/fz rain last night. can that be right? plus parts of LI had 2'' liquid.

I just wanted to congratulate Frank on his call. For me in Ridgewood it was perfect. As usual, a great call.
