billg315 wrote:The snow has been coming down moderate to heavy here for about 4 hours or more. But in terms of accumulation it is highly localized. And I mean local. Sidewalks on one side of the street have an inch or so and on the other side of the street just wet and a bit slushy. One parking lot is snow covered, another just wet. Some of it has to do with treated vs untreated surfaces, but its pretty fascinating to see the differences. And to see how heavy it has been snowing for this long with very little to show on the ground. If this storm arrived around midnight last night with no sun angle/strength issues, with these rates I think I'd have about 4-5 inches.
Its a thin line. Also what, if any, infrastructure underground makes a difference too. I'm near white plains and not sticking to pavement except some very localized spots in the last 20 mins. I knews it would take a while when it took hours just to get a dusting on the cars.

Hey mugs, hope you are enjoying this storm.
Question, does the RGEM look good for the LHV for the coastal? unable to check right now.

Re: 3/20 Spring Snowstorm Observations / Final Call Snow Map
Reports seem to indicate higher amnts south, friends stepdad who plows was just in Lakewood and says that their accumulations seemed at least 1hr ahead of ours. Anyone near morris county confirm lower amnts or did elevation boost ratio in exchange for less.qpf?

Yep that confirms my thinking, in mid range NAM/RGEM did well, amnts basically decrease as you go northeast in njBiggin23u wrote:I believe I am close to 5 inches here in Jackson.

Will likely finish with 3.5 here, maybe 4 if I get some help from the coastal.
Still ripping, just over 3 inches.

Just measured 4.75 inches. Still ripping snow. No idea how much we have had with melting, etc today but the rates have been impressive.

Yea these early/late season storms are tough because the 10:1 snow map is not what you see is what you get with the sun angle and radiational warmth from the thawed ground wreaks havoc on forecasting the ratios. In theory in should be 10:1 because its 32 deg and below freezing aloft but its the season and sun thats causing problems. Night wed have twice as much guaranteed.

Re: 3/20 Spring Snowstorm Observations / Final Call Snow Map
I know this isn't exactly a ground breaking piece of analysis but seems like every snowstorm we get, I watch the areas south and east of me get drilled with heavy snow bands and here in North East New Jersey (Bergen)we get light to moderate snow at best. Why do I let this bother me so much? Lol.. seems like this had been years now. Who do I send my complaint to? I want to be in the jackpot for once. .anyhow..banter I know but I had to vent and my wife doesn't care

Wow, very heavy snow now, amazing snow growth. Maybe I'll get 4-6 here in the LHV after all. Back edge has almost stalled just N&W of me.

Love when the plows go by for the first time, after that it's easy stickage everywhere on the road.

Ive got lucky here in cnj but share your sentiment, heaviest bands usually form to my east, south or north depending on storm, ive just gotten hit moderately every storm maybe jackpotting once or twice.Mannyjaffe wrote:I know this isn't exactly a ground breaking piece of analysis but seems like every snowstorm we get, I watch the areas south and east of me get drilled with heavy snow bands and here in North East New Jersey (Bergen)we get light to moderate snow at best. Just went out to measure 2 inches on car that has not moved since 7am this morning, so thats pretty accurate I think, Been coming down hard roads (side) are now getting covered and getting some snow growth.
