I'm guessing, save for some snow piles, the snowpack pretty much goes. This is El Nino type of winter. No extended snowpack but with huge snowstorm potential like we saw in Feb 1983 and just recently.
Exactly.
Re: January 2016 Observations and Discussions
Honestly, I'm kind of liking it... I couldn't do another winter of being in a frozen tundra state for weeks on end. 35° here and starting to see grass patches where I had less snowpack due to the winds last week. Just hope we get the next big one before the 18th when I leave for Daytona!

Skins here are a few stats for january 2016...skinsfan1177 wrote:started out at 23* for the low and 49* was the high currently at 41*. Honestly not much snow melt today both front and back yard are covered.
6 days cpk stayed belowed freezing.
10 below normal days
High Temps of 35,39,48,47,42,41 after recieving 26+" of snow in the heart of winter.
This all happened with a predominantly -ao -nao and a +PNA.
It's safe to say El Nino is the primary driver of this winter and all of the other factors and telecommunications should be looked through its eyes.

As of 2 PM, the temperature at CPK is 53 degrees. Unless it gets up to 56 degrees by the end of the day, it will finish the month at 34.4* 1.8* above the 1981-2010 average of 32.6* and ~2.5* above the 147-year running mean of ~31.9*

Thank God for the snow storm in January. Imagine if that missed us what we would be saying now. Looks like the first seven days of February are gone too. Hopefully we can salvage something later in the month.

Except some people got nothing from that storm. This winter has absolutely sucked up here.

Cp and I had half a loaf, or I should say a third of a loaf in the Lower HV anyway.Still have a couple of inches of snowpack but it will be gone by the end of the week.I've been saying all along a big one will hit late Feb-early March. No scientific analysis, strictly seat of the pants analog from watching 56 years.Anyway jimv45, early march snowstorms favor the HV.We'll see.

Good morning Doc. I know your getting old, but I think you should be posting this in the February Obs thread instead of January. LOL ! By the way Happy February. Let's hope it's a cold and really snowy month.
Franks video is really encouraging for this month to be both.

LOL, morning SNOW.
Yep, circuits are slowly blowing as I age, it IS February! Guess it's a subconcious effort on my part to slow down the passage of time as I quickly run out of it.
Have a great day, buddy!

KNYC + 1.9
EWR + 1.7
JFK + 1.7
1 PLUS 18 1 PLUS 15 - IF we did not have these then we go BN - 2 Massive torch days skew the Avg.
I in NNJ finished at about 1* AN due to colder nights average especially with the snow pack.

January in KNYC
10 days below average
2 days at average
19 days above average
Temperatures were above normal case closed, and twice as many days above normal, than below. BTW if we took out the 2 way above normal days from the average like you want to do, we're still above normal for the month by almost 1 degree.
You can play with the stats all you want, take out the 3 coldest days in January and we're way above normal for the month.
Now thankfully it was nothing like December, I'd take the 2 degrees above normal in January vs the 14 above normal like we had in December.
Our meterological winter which is 2/3's over, is now 8 degrees above normal and may end as the warmest winter ever. So far this winter sucks, that's just one mans opinion, and it has nothing to do with only getting 12 inches of snow from Jonas

CP, don't let the global warmists see this post, they'll take it to the hoop,LOL!
Seriously, this is serious torch territory.I was torn a week or so ago when a discussion in one thread here was would one want to have a normally cold winter with extended snowpack with more lesser snowfalls or one like the posters S and E of me have had....warm but with a huge snowstorm.I guess it's a moot point up here, we don't get the huge snowstorms N and W anymore.Feb 2006, Snowmageddon, Juno, Nemo etc etc.So for me, I'll take scenario one.
Anyhoo, as I type, I have a balmy 56.4 degrees.Going to go out for a cigar, fer cryin' out loud!!!

Doc,
LOL
"CP, don't let the global warmists see this post, they'll take it to the hoop,LOL!"
It does suck but I guess all we can do is take it and go on, right? open the doors to the OTI sanitarium this week -business will be booming!
