December 2015 Warmest On Record!

Unless the temperature in Central Park gets down to -369 degrees Fahrenheit (which is approximately 50 Kelvin), December 2015 will take sole possession as the warmest December on record for NYC.

I had mentioned earlier this month on the board that this December would be in the running for the warmest March on record if it was March.  Now, due to the "cool down" that NYC had over the last few days (by "cool down" I mean 10 degrees above average as opposed to 20-30+ degrees above average), it will fall short of the 51.1 in March 1945 and the 50.9 in March 2012.  Since it is currently at the low temperature for the day, it won't be exactly certain until midnight.  If the low is between 41 and 44, it will be 50.8 for a December average.  It it goes down to between 35 and 40, it will be 50.7 for a December average. Either way, this month will be over 13 degrees above the average of 37.5 degrees.  To put that into context, last February, the 3rd coldest February on record, was "only" 11.4 degrees below normal.

Finally, this month would be well above average even for November.  If it gets to 50.8 degrees, it would qualify to tie November 1999 as the 12th warmest November on record (it would be the 13th warmest if it's 50.7).  And some of the Novembers warmer than that are fairly recent, including 2001, 2006, 2009, 2011, and, of course, 2015, the warmest November on record.

yeah Central Park. I dont know whats the closet climate station to you. Cant think of any real close, mt holly has Trenton and AC. NY office has Newark. Cant think of any in between.

Agreed, Trenton not similar at all to the CNJ coast, AC your best bet Skins, maybe subtract a degree or two for you and up the snowfall a couple of inches.

The warmest December ever by almost an 8 degree average over the old record, just sums more than anything how ridiculous this past month was.

The Christmas Eve record minimum of 63 use to be the all time high for Christmas Eve.

Unheard of like you said, I hope never again in my lifetime.
