billg315 wrote:There has been a lot of consistency with this being a long-duration event, I guess because of blocking to the north. If that is true I would say this, to ease the concerns of those who would be negatively impacted by a track taking the Low center on, or hugging, the coast. In that scenario I would think it still starts as snow, and even IF (IF because I lean against this happening) it was so close as to cause a change to sleet and rain in the middle as it tracks by NJ, it seems once it got a little north of us it would go back to snow - possibly for quite some time with a slow moving system (at that point we'd be in the CCB). So we'd get a good thump on the front-end and on the back-end. This is why I'm not so concerned about models showing a track right along the coast. If that's the WORST CASE scenario, its not awful. The real worst case is the damn thing goes OTS.
BINGO Billg!!
These huge storms have tended to take an east jog as they approach here, so having them start a little west is good,IMO.rb has a great analysis in a few posts above this one on this.

Yes, it will not be 15:1 for the entire storm. Especially long the coast like that.

I taught for 1 hour and come back to 4 pages of posts and knew something was up[/b[b]]. Then I saw the scroll and said GOD BLESS THE EURO. A compromise between the Euro and the GFS would make the entire forum giddy!

A compromise between euro and gfs would put us most attractive at 18 to 24 plus. And might I mention the wind this monster will produce woth the way it's shown to deepen.

It's a probability map. The tans light to darker are anywhere from 50-75% chance of greater than a foot of snow. Very impressive this far out.

This is when years ago with my old cube NOOA weather radio they would be announcing the good possibility of a foot of snow a few days out.THAT is very impressive that probability map, and I am sure the variables must all be coming in line for it to spit that out.
