And actually at 2 am it still shows mod-to-heavy over NNJ which I’ll be thrilled with.

He's probably just trying to find a way to verify his 4-8" map which will bust

NAM SHOWS 1-1.75” qpf on LI. At 12:1 ratios that’s another 12-16”. I’m quickly approaching 2” already so....... I’ll trust Scott and Frank and rb on this one

Same here..Looks much better in Manhattan than here. Must of got under some heavier bursts of snow.
Also if your right next to the Sound that might be a factor ?
It's snow pretty good now here though. Coating cars, grass. Pavement mostly wet but a dusting trying to form in some spots. 31*

1 inch here.
Still not sticking to the street. Not happy that I lost a second day of my spring break for this.

Re: March Madness! Spring Snowstorm Observations
Sleet was a blessing in disguise. This would certainly be white rain on blacktop and streets, but since they all had a layer of ice, it looks like January outside. Sticking to all services in bright daylight at 32 degrees.

Snow is very light now, almost invisible but, the wind is ramping up. Steady at 14 with gusts to 18mph.

Re: March Madness! Spring Snowstorm Observations
A lot of "white rain" falling as we speak. The precipitation rates are too light across most places to promote stickage. Keep in mind our secondary low is still WAY down off the coast of the Mid-Atlantic. As the 500mb low tracks east, it will tug the low west while also deepening it. Check out these bands in MD. That is the "dinner" Scott was talking about that will be here mid to late afternoon into evening.
That said, we are "wasting" some qpf right now. I still like 10-15" for those I placed in the blue/gold on my snow map. Some of the higher totals, like 12-18, that Upton shows may be too bullish but we'll find out sooner than later.

Re: March Madness! Spring Snowstorm Observations
Just woke up and family said it started about 1/2 he ago. Non stickage. Last night it was sleeping up to Hackensack and was moderately sleet in when we came out of Montclair ice rink last night.

The reason you’re not getting anything sticking to the street is it’s not heavy enough there yet. You’re in a dry spot or on the edge of one. That should change by midday/afternoon when all the heavy stuff you see to the south and west gets here.

He is saying the HRRR was showing the heaviest bands staying just off the coast. Immediately surrounding heavier bands is usually an area of subsidence (sinking air as a result of intense rising air in the location of the heavy band). Where there is sinking air, there will either be a dry slot or very light precip. So he is saying if the heavy band is just offshore, then surround it (the coast) will be dominated by subsidence.

Precip type along the coast will be dependent on the rate of precip until the early afternoon as discussed yesterday.Smittyaj623 wrote:Anddddd back to a light rain...
