Those are general public reports some as of 4:30. Trust me I've been measuring snow my whole life it's pretty simple, 7.3 inches here as of 7:00 Am and it's been snowing lightly since.

Of course but I would never rely on the general public reporting totals. Most people don't know anything about a snow board, where to measure, how often, when to clear the board which now is only once at midnight. Some wait until after compression, melting has started, and some like Doc eyeball it LOL.

^^LOL, yes Doc’s “eyeballing” method has not achieved state of the art reliance in the scientific community.

3 inchs wet show is what i measured may been bit more due to compacting but it never changed over. Nice little storm.

That's fair. I didn't count 1/4" sleet last night like I'm supposed to as I'm getting lazy LoL.  My comment wasn't calling you out it's just what I saw from a few reports around the Monroe area.  I've had many instances where 5 miles differences have made differences in snow totals especially if there are any elevation differences.

I know you weren't I've just grown so numb to bad measurements through my decades long battles with the Park it's like nails on a chalkboard. You're reports through the last three months with Sroc are the only things that have kept us sane here.

A perfect example today will be Jman, an astute weather watcher, good guy, and long time member of this board but I guarantee the 3 inches he just reported in Yonkers will be between 4-5 when the trained spotter from Yonkers reports. He likes to measure on blacktop as so many others do which in a storm like this is the last place the snow accumulates.

I wish Winteroldandsnowisamyth were still here so I could go back to OTI and relax.

LOL, right, 72 year old eyeballs that had cataract surgery last year. Always can be plus or minus one with me,LOL.Too old and lazy to go out there and do proper measurements.

What is this Disappointment only ended up with a inch of snow Mainly on car tops And Grassy area . But it does look nice on the trees a winter wonderland

3.5" here in St. James on the North Shore of LI. Temp *32.6. Stayed about 30-31* overnight with a NE wind. Never fully went SE so DP and temp stayed below freezing. Very little sleet mixed in and even still this morning when it should have been raining, we have steady light snow again. Overall ended on the colder side of the forecast, but the low ratio snow resulted in low totals. But I expected 2-5" inches so this worked out well! On to the next one!

Boy was that snow heavy to shovel! A little rough for the snowblower it's so wet. Official measurement 4.5" here

Piscataway last night.  Just about 2" (sorry - I don't have a snowboard and I didn't make a formal measurement, either).  It wasn't a substantial snow, but it certainly was pretty.

Looks to be around 5 inches here in Eastchester.

Awesome stuff!  I'm delegating CP to formalize a certification program and personally certify measurers at CPK before they report next season.  The certification must be passed before for any measurers may measure and failure to rigorously abide by its guidelines sends the measurer to the gulag.

I endorse this 100%

I would recommend harsher penalties for those that do not adhere to the guidelines. One incorrect measurement subjects the measurer to a one month suspension from the forum. Two incorrect measurements and permanent suspension.

Those convicted may reapply to the forum after two years but only after a 100 page essay is submitted detailing the most egregious errors by Central Park since record keeping began in 1869. A good starting point as always would be the March blizzard of 1888.

By the looks of the trends for Friday which are terrible I may be signing off for the season. To the relief of many I know and the chagrin of a few.

Back to OTI where life is simple and no one has to worry about measuring snow.

Look at NWS reports for bx, that may be the compacted amount but I ended up with 4.5 per trained spotter, no way you got a inch. Even compacted I measured 3.0

We had a coating on the grass last night for a bit before it started raining..it was pretty for a short period of time..

Finished with 6. 14 for the season.
