Makes sense with an ULL track like that. Probably even MBY in northern most bucks may get a taste.rb924119 wrote:rb924119 wrote:rb924119 wrote:
This imagery agrees, and is what I’ve been using to assess progression:

You can clearly see the whole trough laying back now. Don’t forget, that meso page is an hour behind. But still, seeing the actual fluidity in motion really helps to determine how things are behaving.
You can also see the colder cloud tops rebuilding and angling back over central PA. This is in response to the vorticity advection catching up to the H7 frontogenesis. We should start to see some radar returns filling in there soon. But, as those forcing mechanisms continue to shift east, they should begin to draw the ascending air from the H850 frontogenesis into them, and once that starts happening, then that’s when things should start to pick up on earnest. And based on what I’m seeing, it won’t be at Albany’s latitude.
Note the latitude of the comma head associated with the H5 circulation relative to our backing moisture feed, denoted by the red line. The yellow line represents the expected H5 track (center of vorticity). Anywhere north of that vort axis should capitalize once these forcings come together, in my opinion (A.K.A. along and north of my red line lol).

31.8° and moderate snow, 600 feet asl, Highland Mills. Sticking to everything except roads.
Have been dropping steadily all evening, but more so the last hour. Went from 34.3° at 11 when the change began and 80 minutes later I've dropped another 2.5° to current reading. I don't want to get my hopes up but, was RB onto something?

Snowing in West Milford. 33 degrees with about an inch. Looks like snow is mixing in NENJ and getting closer to the city.

6 inches at 33 degrees - it must've ripped for a while up there. No snow in the city yet - very light rain falling.

I went to sleep at 10 PM and it was only rain.Woke up for the obligatory, at age 72, bathroom run, at 4 AM and looked like it was ripping.Saw over 4 inches at that point.
NWS had said last night that my area would get 2 inch per hour rates for a few hours starting at midnight.
Elevation is the key on borderline rain/snow storms.I am at 636 feet.As bad as this season is, it is a throwback to the 1950's when as a kid, "areas N and W" of the City always got more snow.I remember once in Dec. 1966 leaving from Fort Lee NJ with a few slushy inches and going to visit my Uncle in Westtown NY near High Point and them having a foot and a half OTG, windy and cold with snow showers all day!

Snowing here at 7 am. Grass and cars are covered, but not driveways or streets. When I first looked out at 5:45 am, there was just the lightest dusting on grass only, so this changed to snow relatively recently here.

33* with some flurries here. If the radar projection is to be believed we may actually start to pick up some steady snow around here - maybe even a couple hours of heavier snow - over the next few hours. That could leave me with 1-3” which the way this storm went is probably the best I could hope for. Rb’s thoughts again seem to be panning out.

Made it to queens. Snow not as strong once I got to Northern Westchester. Mix by Briarcliff then rain. Now seeing a mix in queens. As i was leaving the house I saw a blue flash and power went out. Got the generator going for the family so they would have lights and heat today. Roads by me cleared and a little slick. By time i got to westchester just wet.
