Yep, the people from Northern Minnesota or Michigan where 25 below zero temps are routine in the winter must laugh at the media around here.Years ago, when I was in business, I'd talk to clients from Northern new England who would laugh and ridicule when they closed the schools down here with 12 inches of snow.Theirs would be open in 20 inch snowstorms,LOL!

You know what the upstate NY people think of this, they just got 5 feet of snow. I remember driving through Syracuse several years ago the morning after they had 18 inches, you wouldn't even know it had snowed other than the 6 foot high piles along the highway.

CP --- I went to college at Syracuse University. The city was so good at removing snow. They made it disappear so quickly. Of course as you said, there were always piles of snow along the sides of the road 6 feet high but they kept roads, highways, sidewalks, and the airport! clear almost always. We had some great winters up there. My freshman year 20023-2004 we had 181.3 inches of snow. It was the 2nd highest season snow total ever. I was in heaven! Even the locals who had lived in Syracuse for their whole lives were complaining. I think this whole group on this forum should move up to the snow belt for a winter! We would all be very happy! Even in a dud winter like 2011-2012 they had over 50 inches of snow.

I have property in Central NY, about 40 minutes from Syracuse, right by Colgate University in Hamilton NY. The winters can be brutal. I remember being up there during a few good storms. When that lake effect kicks in....man you never know what can happen!!! 5 miles away the sun can be shinning while you are getting pounded with relentless snowfall

Re: Severe Arctic Blast / Flash Freeze 1/6-1/7
Frank mentioned something a couple of days ago about someone he knew going up to the tug hill plateau in New York to experience a lake effect blizzard. If they went they picked a great event. Parts of the tug hill I heard have received 60 inches the past few days, maybe more. I would love to experience that once, more so even than storm chasing a tornado.

Yes, I've already seen videos and pictures that they're posting on their Facebook pages. I'll see if I can get them onto here.

Frank:
5 inches per hour, un freakin believable. Any idea how much snow they've seen fall in the area they're in?
Post more pictures if you can Frank, great stuff

Todays high was 19* from a low of-1*. I couldn't agree with you more Mugs about a snowstorm, your right that is Winter. I hope your right about being possibly smacked in the long range. I'll be looking forward to it.
