What a lousy commute (Suffolk into Nassau)!!!. Whiteout conditions & roads very slippery. I skid right past my turn and was only going about 15 mph.

Issued by The National Weather Service
New York City, NY
Fri, Jan 9, 6:53 am EST
A BAND OF MODERATE TO LOCALLY HEAVY SNOW WILL MOVE EAST ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY... SOUTHWEST CONNECTICUT... THE NEW YORK CITY METROPOLITAN AREA... AND WESTERN LONG ISLAND BETWEEN NOW AND 9 AM. THE SNOW WILL ACCUMULATE QUICKLY ON ROADS... AND SOME LOCATIONS WITHIN THIS BAND COULD RECEIVE A QUICK INCH OF ACCUMULATION IN A HALF HOUR. THIS PLUS WINDS GUSTING TO 25 TO 35 MPH WILL RESULT IN BRIEF WHITEOUT CONDITIONS... CAUSING VERY HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS.

All they care about is getting the birds off the ground an din the air - they could give a shit about how much snow is measured to be quite frank after talking to a PA official I know - so like the CP Zoo keeper they need a kick in the pants!!

Very heavy snow out here on the Island. Salters are out and roads are terrible.

Well since CPK entering today was at 1.7" for the season (still can't understand the 0.5" from Tuesday when I got 1.2" nearly 15 miles away..) I just hope we at least get out of the bottom spot that is the winter of 1972-73 which had 2.8" of snow the entire winter.

Re: Clipper System Tuesday 1/6, Frigid Temps. 1/7 - 1/9
Near whiteout conditions at times commute on Bx river was a nightmare but not one accident thank goodness. I think easily areawide 1-3 inches, not in yonkers anymore but we had to have 2 or more. Frank u busted on this one heh, oh well I do not think anyone expected that line to hold together that intense (which was awesome, but not the drive). Done snowing now here in S. Bronx.

This has got to be thermodynamically driven enhancement

Some Atlantic moisture seems to be getting involved with the SW flow.

Re: Clipper System Tuesday 1/6, Frigid Temps. 1/7 - 1/9
yes scott as per steve d video this morning 850's had some serious waa going on. 2m temps rose to near 40 at Montauk from teens last night. 500mb low is back in ohio along with cold front which should come through this afternoon. they (500mb low and cold front) had little influence in our snow this morning. that's why having arctic air down here is a major player for snow. if temps were near normal we would have had rain today.sroc4 wrote:This has got to be thermodynamically driven enhancement

2.25 inches here that makes 5 inches for the month I'm above normal for my area and the nice three inch snow pack hoping to add more this coming week. by the way Central Park ended up with .7 inches.

Sun out and cold now - LI in spots may see 3" and even 4" over Eastern End with Atlantic getting involved IMO

That's insane, but not surprising.
30 year and 145 year average for January in CPK is 7.1 and 7.6. I'm sure you're average is a little higher than that Al. Unless you meant your above average at this point in the month?

Yes I'm above average so far. we're only 9 days in. I'm not sure what my average is but I'm assuming about 3 inches higher than Central Park so should be about 10 inches for the month. I'm halfway there.CPcantmeasuresnow wrote:algae888 wrote:2.25 inches here that makes 5 inches for the month I'm above normal for my area and the nice three inch snow pack hoping to add more this coming week. by the way Central Park ended up with .7 inches.

For sure, no monster storms this month but so far January is blowing away a dead December. I'll take it in small doses it all counts.
That 0.7 in the Park is nuts.

Guaranteed the Central Park Zookeeper measures low snow amounts on purpose just to piss you guys off. He probably trolls on this sight and does it intentionally. Don't even pay attention.
