Re: Sunday, January 18th Rain Storm
The 0Z RGEM suggests freezing rain Sunday morning before changing over the plain (heavy) rain.

Michael that's interesting. Precip would have to move in much earlier than expected though. Will be interesting if RGEM still shows this tomorrow.

Maybe it's my eyes but the Euro shows rain to snow for the NYC area and the surrounding areas.

Don't toy with me snow. Stuff like that just doesn't happen this winter.

I can see rain turning to snow in western areas from NJ to NY tomorrow night. Maybe bring a quick coating. Should be interesting to track.

Re: Sunday, January 18th Rain Storm
Frank per 12z gfs it intensifies a bit faster showing wind gusts to 40 to 50mph in central ct and on east. Do u see this being a issue or is the model exaggerating wind gusts? I like that wxbell added gusts to the gfs. A issue in that area I mean as that's where u am headed. Odd is why is there less rain?

No wind, no snow. Just rain. Around 2 inches. Non event.

Re: Sunday, January 18th Rain Storm
I can't believe how cold and dry it is out and it's going to dump rain tomorrow. It's torture for us snow lovers. I just came inside and everything is frozen solid. The ground is like a rock. If we get heavey rain there's gonna be flooding issues. If we got the forecast QPF for tomorrow today, with these temps we'd be 24+ EASY!!

Re: Sunday, January 18th Rain Storm
It aint easy getting cold and precip to coincide.
There is a Freezing Rain Advisory till 8am for Manhattan, Staten Island, Bronx (but not Brooklyn and Queens) and nearby suburbs except Long Island
For areas futher N&W untill 11am.
Overnight travel could get interesting?

Yea, I can see it get ugly in the early morning hours. Low level cold will call for icy conditions until 9am or so. Just be careful.

Fortunately, this occurs on a Sunday morning, so there won't be too many people out driving.

2+ inches of rain is possible tomorrow. Storm may try to slow down a bit. There may be thunder.

Check out those vertical velocities along the coastal plain and LI. Def going to see heavy rain with the potential for rumbles of thunder.

Yeah traffic looks horrible esp for sun morn. Every major roadway is at a standstill or closed.
Everything north & west of the LIE into upper Manhattan, the Bronx and north from there is a mess. Safe to assume the freezing rain areas are lined up with that.
