Re: December 2015 Observations & Discussions
It's a straight zonal flow across the entire U.S. next week. A bunch of cut-off short waves. The OTS solution does not surprise me either. I hate rain in the winter anyway.
Re: December 2015 Observations & Discussions
Dusting of snow last night here on campus. Higher elevations of about 2,000+ feet received anywhere from 2-5". Still very unusual start to winter here in the North Country and all the snow that did fall will likely be melted in a few days.

Re: December 2015 Observations & Discussions
26° was my low this morning, rebounding beautifully with the sun and cloudless sky! Forecast is 51° for me, I'm sure we'll make it.

Re: December 2015 Observations & Discussions
Models last night kept the coastal system offshore, bringing little to no rain for the area. It looks like the southern energy is escaping east too quickly for the northern energy to phase. Also, the flow remains fast. We'll see today if there is any west trend.

50 degrees is not that warm for December 5th as the normal high for today is 47 in Central Park so it's only a few degrees above normaljmanley32 wrote:50 freaking degrees on December 5th hard get in holiday spirit windows down and no coat. But it is nice in some. Ways.

Re: December 2015 Observations & Discussions
Wow! Some bare-knuckle stuff going on over at Accuweather. There is a story that warm air will be in place until sometime in January in the NE and there is a snow drought due to El Nino. I started reading the blog comments under the story and stopped at the first one; some folks take their weather sources to task!
"Accuweather is Garbge, bunch of lies. Look at the North american ensembles, Clearly there is a MAJOR pattern change coming." <--and it is not my typo or capitalization errors. Wow. I am glad we are all ladies and gentlemen and play well in the sandbox. It is a shame when some folks can't play together well in the sandbox. To catcall an august (wink! wink!) weather site like that...jeeesh!

Yup, there's plenty of die hard winter weather enthusiast. If mother nature decides to have a warm month or two, people are going to start losing it.

Re: December 2015 Observations & Discussions
Im in Ft Laurdale and its nothing but endless heavy rain, flooding, and strong NE winds.
The weather was better in NY in Dec. I had to go to FL to experience what amounts to a powerful noreaster

Re: December 2015 Observations & Discussions
From Upton, NY. Never really heard "dangerous frosting before" but we have the same thing going on here at Lyndon State College.
MAIN CONCERN IS THAT WE WILL HAVE UP TO 10 DEGREES F OF DEW POINT DROPOUT
(MOISTURE DEPOSITED ONTO SURFACES AS THE SATURATION MIXING RATIO
FALLS). THIS COULD RESULT IN A DANGEROUS FROSTING OF SOME PAVED
SURFACES IN ADDITION TO THE THE NORMAL SURFACES (CARS, ROOF TOPS,
ETC).
