Take note. The eternally peaceful residents of OTI are hungry and living in near poverty. The once hopeful people are fearful the chance of measurable snow is falling like the Chinese financial markets. They are sharpening knives and dulling blunt weapons of force. Let's just hope the word North becomes a part of the conversation.

Syo, I'm not arguing against your point from the other thread regarding how much good models do, but I would say that being able to track Katrina saved a lot of lives.

Hey guys...been a while since i've been on but i've been here reading all your posts and keeping up. I now work during the storms clearing city streets. I know this probably belongs on banter but hopefully this keeps some off the roof! I totally understand everyone's frustration here...i'm a snow junky too! We're all born that way! But never give up hope till the storms actually gone and the clouds are breaking! I always bring up the '96 storm...the king in my lifetime! I'm in Queens and that baby gave us 30"!! The big difference with that storm was the arctic high to our NW was extreme....it was 7 deg that morning! I live the cold but i never felt that cold in my life when i went out that morning! The dampness went through your bones and that wonderful smell of the snow coming!! That temp assured us that no matter how close that storm got most likely there would be no rain/ snow line issues! And every beautiful flake that fell stuck immediately! Back then all i had was the weather channel...when they actually stuck to weather!! And a little noaa weather radio...yeah ,i'm old! No computer so my only radar outlet was the WC's "local on the 8's"! Everyone went to bed the night before storm hit hearing 3-6" and possibly 6-12" forecast. The jackpot zone was over DC and PHI...24+. I'll never forget stayin up all night to watch the live winter weather updates they had every hour or so. Right around 2am Paul Kocin came on with the latest comp model updates...telling us that with the latest information they now need to shift the jackpot totals NE!! That the bullseye for this storm is now over NYC!! More times then not in my life when we have gotten our monster storms that has been the case....heaviest totals to our south and west....head for the hills its coming! Especially when they say Boston may get shut out with this one....Boston rarely gets shut out!! Mother nature loves the snow lovers up there!!! So keep faith guys...theres always time for it to change! Keep the spirit of '96 alive!!

The Bergen county black hole will rear its ugly head. Prepare for the 2 inch godzilla. 2 inches would be a lot compared to what we've gotten this winter. South jersey and Philly are in the sweet spots.

No matter what happens the next couple of days i'm feeling good about the 2.2 inches of snow I have received so far this winter. After winter storm Apollo dropped 0.3 inches on my yard several days ago I said to myself no matter what this next storm brings I just feel blessed for what has been a memorable winter season.

The National Weather Service has issued a snow flurry watch for Friday night in the Hudson Valley. Hopefully by tomorrow morning I wake up and it's a warning.

Every now and then, maybe more often than not, we do not see a major weather event coming until it is right on top of us. And sometimes we see it coming for awhile, but uncertainty keeps us from believing it until almost the last minute (i.e. Sandy). In January of 1996 I was home in Philadelphia for winter break from college at Penn State. Classes started on Monday and I had given my roommate and another friend I ride home for the break and was going to take them back up. As of Friday there was talk of a possible snow event on Sunday, but nothing too crazy. On Saturday Jan. 6 we agreed that we would stay in Philly to watch the NFL divisional playoffs (Eagles vs Cowboys) before leaving to go back to school Sunday evening. However that afternoon the forecast started to become more serious and the projected snow totals begin getting upgraded. By evening there was a consensus forming that this was something more than a run of the mill snowstorm. I called my friends and we discussed the situation and decided if we were to get snowed-in for somewhere for two or three days, better it be up at school where there were more, um, distractions. So we scrambled to pack our stuff and head back up to State College PA. We left around 10 p.m. at night. We pulled into State College a little before 2 a.m. and the first snowflakes were just starting to come down lightly. By the next morning, the entire region was in a historic snowstorm (even worse to our east). 30-plus inches would fall in Philly and that would become the blizzard of 1996. And just 24 hours before it, it seemed inconsequential enough that we actually thought we could drive four hours through it. Sometimes, big storms don't verify until the last minute.

OK, then, I'm going to have to check our broom to make sure all the bristles are in good order so I can sweep the walk after "flurrygeddon" hits our HV area. Thanks for the heads up, CP.Heading out to Shop Rite for emergency food supplies and Home Depot for propane for the lights. I expect widespread power outages up here.

Nice to read this story on the Blizzard of 1996 in the epic snow year of 1995-1996.

This is absolutely nuts 967mb! subtract 15 from the 30 area as thats what it has for the rest of this storm so CMC has 14 in that darkest area for next FRI! Some will have well over 4 ft if that verifies crazy!

If this Thursday into Friday storm verifies it should also be called Jonas so we can call them the Jonas Brothers and talk in the future about the Jonas brothers storms.
