Re: Wx Banter Thread 2.0
Yep, my NOOA Weather Radio was a little cube with an antenna sticking out, lol.I think they changed the forecast every 15 minutes or so.Before that, in the early 60's, you used to be able to telephone a number, WEather 6-1212 or something like that, and for 5 cents, you could hear the latest forecast,LOL.No computers, this was it, save for the evening news with weather icons like Gloria Okon on WPIX and the classic Tex Antoine,"Uncle Weatherby", on Channel 5 I think. You could tune in the radio news every half hour to get their forecast. They would vary greatly on snow predictions.
The Weather Channel was truly an amazing thing in hose pre-computer days.It was a major leap from the earlier stuff I mentioned. The early 80's and the advent of cable tv brought this plus for my stock trading operations, FNN, later CNBC, put an actual TICKER crawl at the bottom of the page! Before that, you had to call a broker, hope he wasn't busy and put you on hold, just to get a quote, lol. Now, I have instant quotes and trade on a computer versus calling a broker to put in a trade at 42 1978 dollars. Now, 7 bucks,LOL.

Wow, those bad Weather Channel graphics bring back great memories.
As a kid, I remember Tex Antoine was the fun weatherman, and Frank Field was the serious weatherman.

My favorite weather man EVER hands down was Lloyd Lindsey Young. Channel 9. Anyone remember him. He used to get so fired up for heavy snow during the winter. Like a cartoon character. I also LOVED TWC back in the 90's. Used to binge watch it. It sucks now.

I told you Jim. Maine is getting their Roidzilla. We just missed. I wont lie...it chaps my arse to no end as this was the potential for us if it came together a little earlier. Thing of beauty

Is there a valid reason why my question about thurs and posdible high wind event was removed? It was neither inappropriate or off topic. After looking at models though it appears accuwx is not right. I think members who's posts are removed in this instance should b informed as I was expect to see an answer instead my question isn't even there. Sorry thst kinda ticks me off.

You're looking at the glass half empty.
Red Sox Suck received 3.7 inches of snow from their so called blizzard this weekend and probably will get nothing Thursday. So for the few out there that kept yelling about the GFS map that showed 60 inches of snow for Red Sox Suck this week, they're going to fall a wee bit short of that.
Like I said yesterday, it's fine to look at the snowfall maps but don't forget to look at the final result, they rarely coincide, unless of course it's a map from one of our guys.

Hey Doc did you remind CP like I asked yesterday to stop measuring snowfall with his metric system ruler. This artificially inflates the HV's seasonal snowfall avg.

Doc is my witness my measurements are accurate yours on the other hand???
Taking the highest total each storm from LI or Ulster county Depending which site does best is not certified by the NWS as an accurate way to keep totals yet I'm still ahead by 9 inches or 22.5 cm whatever form of measurement you prefer.

And yes, my NOAA WeatherRadio was a big purchase for me when I was younger. I think I was in 6th or 7th grade and my mom, who probably thought I was crazy, took me to Radio Shack to buy it since I said I really wanted one. I felt like I was getting "inside information" since it was coming directly from the National Weather Service Office. And I was the first to know about watches and warnings being issued. The one I had also included an "Alert" mode, where, if you weren't listening to the radio but a warning was issued (i.e. a Severe Thunderstorm Warning) a siren would sound and a red light would blink. A loud siren. It used to scare the crap out of my sisters -- who hated it. I thought it was awesome. (couldn't keep it in Alert Mode at night though or it would have ticked off everyone in the house if it went off. lol).

I posted something in the off topic section under general banter. With the boring weather coming up, I think it will generate lots of discussion especially amongst my OTI Island Members. Take a look at it

my GPA gave me my 1st weather radio. Dunno what happened to it would been nice ha e as a memory as we lost him several years back. Im.not sure if i was on nj strong or not. It was very primitive back prolly 25 years ago or so compared to ones today. He was i mountains of vt so i go the radio upstsirs it was some type of communication putdide the town of roughly 1000 pop. Though now they are worthless in nyc area as the station as I last knew was down for like a decade or more cuz it interfered with the navy radio frequency. Why couldn't it simply just b placed on another frequency I do not understand this one bit.billg315 wrote:Math23x7 wrote:You guys might like this clip I came across featuring a Weather channel local forecast (or Local on the 8s) every year from 1983 to 2017:

Re: Wx Banter Thread 2.0
No biggie I think I must been type it snd maybe got distracted and never hit send was on phone I know that. The question was would the bombing out storm on thurs cause any high winds as accuwx had me gusting to 52mph. They had same for yesterday out a week thought on average for cwa should been more like 55 to 70 mph. I looked euro cause it's almost always bullish with wind but nailed yesterday. For thurs it does show a period of 40 to 55 mph gusts but Its not like yesterday where we were squeezed between two systems.sroc4 wrote:Frank_Wx wrote:jmanley32 wrote:Is there a valid reason why my question about thurs and posdible high wind event was removed?
