Rocktober Obs/Discussions Empty Rocktober Obs/Discussions

Post by amugs Sat Sep 30, 2017 8:32 am

Starts tomorrow and night time lows are about average but daytime highs will be above for this upcoming week, the 1st week of October. Huge a Quebec HP moving in.
If this were D-F it would be the opposite, cold, very cold.
One can only hope for such with some liquid come D-F.

Discuss this month and share pics of nature's beauty.

Not much beauty here, trees dropping ugly leaves, no color yet. We have a sugar maple at work that usually gets a brilliant red, but leaves almost gone already

My neighbor's tree, which blooms with pink flowers in the spring, currently has no leaves but is blooming again as of this morning.  It looks very strange.

With the first frost, the crabgrass goes away (yeah!). This morning at 4:05 am, it is 42 degrees here. Plants will have to come inside in a few weeks. Just about 30 days to Halloween. I remember a few years where there was snow a week or two before. We had gone to an indoor water park in PA and drove home in two feet of snow on the day after Halloween. It melts quickly but it makes things interesting.

38.1 here right now, 89% 30.12R

No rain now for a while. Not liking this mild -dry pattern and hope this does not portend that pattern for the coming winter.

Jman I was driving with my wife heading west on Rt 25A and said to my wife, "look at the way those clouds look. It looks like rotation almost like a tornado" My wife rolled her eyes as she usually does when weather stuff comes out of my mouth (LOL) and I left it at that. Interesting. Now I wish I had snapped a picture.

Temp departures from normal will be running mainly positive this week. By the end of week into the weekend, they could be as much as +10 above average. Outside of some showers on Thursday, it looks dry too.

Patterns transitions next week as the trough in the plains pushes out the HP in east and GOM moisture gets tapped. Good we fricking need it!!

This is all due to the breakdown of the HP over the Gulf of Alaska that will retrograde west and allow the Aleutian trough to establish itself and pump a PNA spike in teh west so teh models show. A sign??

I look forward to the first freeze. Not because it portends the coming snow season, but because it portends the end of the mosquitos and gnats who ruin my enjoyment of the outdoors from May to October.

Well cooler weather looks like it makes a return, to only run away again and we'll probably see 80s next weekend again. My a.c. is out and staying out. I'll just suffer a little. I refuse to put it on in October, ridiculous.

As Scott pointed out earlier in another thread, we can all thank the incredibly persistent +SOI for this nearly continuous ridging in the East. However, until we see that begin to reverse, tropical threats remain a threat for southern regions of the U.S., in addition to continued warmer than normal temperatures from the Mississippi eastward.

Something peeps have to note with this warmth that is so abnormal we have had this massive deep LP systems that have sucked up and transported all of the latent deep heat that Atlantic Ocan has been storing and pumped it up this way. They have helped transport all of the moist,  humid air and brought low heights to the North Atlantic thus eroding the blockiness we had. Also, the sun was very active with medium to high level.flares and Coronal Holes with ejections. Now it has started to sudside so this should help as we move forward.
One thing that is big cancelled out which I can't find an answer to is that the MJO which has a medium strength to strong KW is in phase 5 to 6 which would mean a colder east moving forward but the SE ridge seems to be ovwrrising this with the AL LP which was forecasted to retrograde West and erode the pattern.
