I grew up cooking Kishka whole or sliced in the oven and then serving with oven roasted chicken. Yummy!!

This way, you leave it in the crock from the start and after 8-10 hours it’s all done cooking so just kind of either rip it apart in the crock or carefully extricated it and slice. There are two kinds of kishka, meat kosher (Glatt) and parve kosher. Both are good, but the meat one is a bit more savory if you are more carnivorous and the parve one is meat free if you are more herbivorous. Well, it’s beef stew so omnivorous. Chances are local Walmart has one or the other and not both. But at least now you can make an informed choice! lol

And my cholent is looking much better than my sleet storm. Rat a tat says the sleet storm...

Awful situation down south. Saw video the other night of people sitting in their running cars just to keep warm. Terrible.

Very interesting video as he explains the planetary alignment and the cyclical alignment that coincides with David Dilley. I have been following DuByne for about 4 years now adn he has been pretty much on target with everything he has said.

Honestly and I know some might not like to hear this but I'm ready for spring. I've gotten a lot snow top 4 winter since I joined in 2013. I need people to start garage sales in March as I'm a picker and reseller and right now ebay is my only income. Weathermom usually I see it posted but def let me know when your townwide is. Anyone else in NJ too if you hear about entire townwide sales NJ is the place I find my stuff so let me know. I know we prolly will see snow in March but I'm fully snow happy with this year.

If I get less than 1" tomorrow, then AccuWeather saw this whole thing a mile away and they misaligned themselves beautifully from any guidance I've seen for last 36 hours.  It will be interesting.

I think it is so much more befitting when the ° symbol is used when posting temperatures as opposed to * which most prefer. Doesn't 32° look so much nicer than 32*? And here's how you do it.

Hold the ALT key on your keyboard and type 0176 or 248. Alt+0176 or Alt+248. Release the ALT key then. The degree (°) sign will appear immediately where you want to write it. Make sure that you use the right ALT key and enable number lock.(always wondered what the was for) A little more work but worth the effort IMO.

Some laptops don't have the number lock anymore and that doesn't work on my new laptop, so I'll still be using the * unless I switch to tablet mode, in which case I can get that degree symbol.

Dunz, are you running windows or do you have a mac? If running windows, you can also get it by typing character map in search bar and   copy and paste it from there. Never was an apple fan so if you're on a mac I'm sure a google search will help you out. Cheers

When I teach Spanish, I use TypeItIn which is a program that allows you to create groups then buttons with stored verbiage or symbols. For example, I use it to store upside down question marks ¿¿ or exclamation points ¡¡ or letters with special marks as in accents or tildes: á é ü ñ and so on. Where did I get these marks? Off the web. I cut and paste and the program automatically determines the font and size and that works for me. I don't know how to do a degree mark either in Word, but I could find it on the web, and copy and paste it into a button. It is easy enough and TypeItIn stores it for me. The program is easy enough to use. I use it a lot in dialog boxes when I teach for example a statistics class and certain formulas and symbols are just not there in a posting window. So that is my lazy man way out of writing/using special letters and symbols. I stop in the middle of the sentence, click on a button in the TypeItIn software, and what I want pops in. Easy easy easy.

Oh I concur. That's why everybody does it. The keyboard method isn't really a lot of work. I was merely pointing out an observation of mine and to note that technically it wasn't the correct symbol. Now those maps, charts, graphs etc. that you post, that is what I would call a lot of work, but I know it's a labor of love. Thumbs up

Interesting Damian. You make it sound easy. Is Typeitin software free or did you have to purchase it?

Edit-I see it is a free download and might be something fun to play around with. Thanks for the info.

LOL,Damian, my rapidly deteriortaing brain prefers to write "degrees' instead of all the searching and pasting.I've hated computers since 1969 when I was a freshman at Steven's Tech and took a computer class there. They were using punchcards and Fortran IV.I could not get my 2 inch stack of punchcards to ever run but guys in my class would punch a bunch of cards to print out the silhouette of a naked woman,LOL.

I love the day because it is melting the ice on the driveway. I was lazy last time and did not clean the driveway. It turned into a sheet of ice. Thank goodness for calcium chloride. It nuked the ice fast.

Post by dkodgis Wed Feb 24, 2021 7:23 pm

As the ice melted away today from my driveway, with help from calcium chloride, I was thinking about some years ago...ten or so...when we had a significant snow pack in what what it...late March or early April...and we had a shocking amount of rainfall. I think it was something like 9+ inches or more. All the snow melted, the rain fell, the ground was supersaturated, flooding occurred, and there was hell to pay for some homeowners who lost foundation walls, had basements flood, and so on. I remember my foundation drain pipe was under bout 5 feet of water. I put a pump down in front of it, plugged it in, and left it on for 24 hours to pump the water onto some high ground. My basement never flooded and the drain pipe is inclined down but there was such flooding of my stream that about a half acre of lowland became a swimming pool. That happened another time in 21 years. Over the years I have steadily placed lots of rocks along the bank near where the pipe under the road carries the water to the other side. I think it has helped a bit but with that kind of water, all bets are off. The stream jumps and goes 40 feet wide and about 5 feet high. I had a dog that did not listen to me, a lab, that went into the water, and got sucked down in the whirlpool in front of the pipe. About 20 seconds later, he shot out the other end of the pipe, into the air like the cow jumping over the moon. I remember he turned his head toward us as he was flying and let out a "WOOF!" as he landed in the stream again where he was able to swim to the side and climb out. His disdain for our letting him get into that predicament and for the experience was clear; he shot out of the pipe like a bullet. It was quite a scare but afterward he was still happy to get back into the water on any given day.

I have a black lab and a long haired dachshund and they are the reason that I am not shedding any tears at the loss of snow pack. I am sure I will need a hefty bag to clean up the yard when all the snow is gone. As you say Damian, the lab loves the water. And they are equipped to handle the cold. Your incident with the dog getting sucked into the pipe must have given you quite a scare. Thank God there wasn't anything blocking his exit.

I noticed today that even though the snow pack is dwindling, there really isn't any puddles or runoff from the mounds on the sides of my driveway, or even the grass for that matter. It just evaporates into the air. I'm sure that wouldn't be the case if a heavy rain was to come along, then the flooding problems start.

Because we're not landscapers and we appreciate our snow pack. I like a snow cover through most of March. I'll concede the last week of March since it is technically spring but I concede it begrudgingly.
