Still warm out, I think that squall line is going to be fun if the temps stay where they are, 61.3*

I would temper any expectations for any significant snow next weekend especially from NYC on south. Storm track looks terrible right now.

CP, until I see the pattern break which has been set in concrete since early November bringing the snowstorms to the Central and North Central CONUS, I won't feel good about getting any big snows here.Hoping for that change to happen in the next few weeks.

Absolutely.  Still a ways out, but most likely it will cut as shown by a preponderance of the guidance.  How strong does the storm get and how much cold air we have to work with is what I'm looking at.  A weaker storm and a good CAD and snow is on the table.  A strong cutter and weaker high to the north then it's a coating to quick slop for most.  We just won't know better until there is better sampling and that will take at least until Tuesday/Wednesday.

That said, this 500 mb is more of a cutter but most likely would redevelop as it hits the rigding at James Bay. Too late for our latitude for sure.

Significant snow though, no that's not what I'm thinking now.  I'd be thrilled with a 2-3 on this.

B oston topped 70 two days in a row in January, they hit 73 today and 70 yesterday, NYC close with 69 yesterday and 67 today

This sh!t just isn't normal. Very freaky.

60.8° and all windows opened. If I can't change it I may as well try to enjoy it.

High today was 65.5. Absolutely incredible with two consecutive mid 60's days in January.

Got .52" rain this morning.

Hopefully, I don't see mid 60's again until April.

Good Point Doc.

However even in the Midwest the big snows have pretty much bypassed all of the big cities. The seasonal totals since July 1 so far including yesterdays snow at the largest Midwest cities. I'm sitting at 16.1 inches right now in what so far has been a pretty dull winter, and I'm ahead of all of them.

Cleveland.........9.5
Indianapolis....10.4
Omaha............5.6
St. Louis..........9.1
Detroit...........14.3
Des Moines.....12.6
Chicago..........12.9
Kansas city.......9.3

Same temps but wind is starting.  Nothing to bark about, something like 10 mph but gusts up to 19 so far.  What is interesting is sometimes it stops; the trees stop moving.  Where I live, I have a clear view of the Shawangunk ridge and the wind seems to come down across the lower land and it means business. However, I am in the woods surrounded by trees. Sometimes I hear and see the wind whipping the trees but I feel very little wind. Walk down the road a thousand feet to a field, way different story. The wind whips so bad I can see Doc's bumper sticker ("Buy low; sell high) blowing by up here.

Sounds like a line from an old Henny Youngman routine, "Take my wife, please".
