Wind forecast was no joke for today. Wind is whipping here. My trash can was just retrieved from halfway down the street (pro-tip: paint your house number on your trash cans -- easier to find when they blow away with all the others).

Yes, up here too. Suddenly dark, squalling, and I know I have noted how the wind howls but it does make me thankful I used 14 bags of cement for my daughter's basketball hoop. I am getting a slick coating. It is 39 here. The surprise is it is sticking at all and snowing at all. All my dusk to dawn and motion lights are coming on.

It’s a light mixed precipitation down here at GSP 80. Wouldn’t call it a squall, but it’s ‘squally’ anyways...temp shows 45*.

Had a really fun squall move through about 2 pm, started as pouring rain, then mixed with sleet and snow. Lasted about 10 minutes. I'm now down to 38* from a high of 48*.

Of course everything is relative, this is the normal low for this date. Feels unseasonably cold because we've been above normal for a month straight.

Got down to 20 this morning which is still above average LOL.

Anyway, my observation of the day comes from Newfoundland, CA. Just read the specifics of what those folks are experiencing from this 961mb absolute beast! Remember 2.54cm/1" and 1.62km/1mile.

Blizzard warning in effect for:

St. John's and vicinity
Dangerous blizzard conditions are expected, with very strong winds and visibility near zero in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Locations: Avalon Peninsula, Clarenville and vicinity, and Bonavista Peninsula.

Total snowfall: 35 to 75 cm, with highest amounts occurring over the northern Avalon Peninsula.

Maximum wind gusts: northerly 120 km/h, except 150 along parts of the coast.

Time span: today until Saturday afternoon.

Remarks: Heaviest snowfall will occur during the day today when rates could well exceed 5 cm per hour. Lesser rates will continue through tonight.

Winds will strengthen today, with the strongest gusts occurring tonight.

Conditions are expected to improve early on Saturday for most areas but strong winds and blowing snow will persist over coastal areas exposed to the north into Saturday afternoon.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Store or anchor objects so they are not tossed by the wind causing injury or damage.

Power outages may occur.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. If you do travel and become lost, remain where you are until the blizzard has passed.

Blizzard warnings are issued when widespread reduced visibilities of 400 metres or less are expected for at least 4 hours.

I know the video out of their and pictures are simply incredible! They literally pulled the plows off the roads.
Boxer Day the last time that happened here and before that the 2003 Blizzard but the worst by neighbors account who has been working for the DPW since 1990 was the KING - 1996.

I know I was watching that bomb for days. 960mb which caused 100 mph winds and 3"/hr snow rates. UNREAL! Narrow path on that storm too. Those in coastal Labrador saw next to nothing.

I believe CPK recorded 2.1" yesterday. That seems reasonable. I think now January 2020 to date doubles that of January 2019 total snow output @ CPK. It just goes to show how incredibly difficult it is to predict long range.

So the snow has almost melted, short lived but it was still nice to see the flakes fly. Big accident on bronx river parkway yesterday 8 injuries huge pileup. People need to slow down cuz there wasn't all that much snow, I drove a few places just fine around 5pm.

Really? Well I do not feel so bad now, I had forgotten how bad January last year was. And somehow still managed 26 inches for the year but tht was including the 7 inches in November.

High temp of 33* today and a forecast low into the teens tonight, imby at exit 80. Both would be my lowest Hi/Low temps going back to last Feb. Any body else hitting their low temps so far for the season today and/or tonight?
