2 down 88 to go.....As long as Collins doesn't put Lannan in, we might be ok...and the last time the Mets had a pinch-hit walk-off grand slam was in 1986.... just saying!

Wow, amazing stat, 1986 the last grand salami.Terrible,LOL.Anyhoo, hopefully this competition between Duda and Davis will yield good results like this.Good to see Gee pitch well.We need him badly with Niese on the bum.Nice to see Grandy go yard.We need his bat badly as well.

Thinking more like 80 wins this year IF all goes well and Syndegaard comes up in the summer. With Niese and Harvey out, we need him.

Neise starting today, limited to 95 pitches, and that grand slam stat was for a walk-off pinch hit, not the last salami...
They haven't been THAT bad!  Razz

Still terrible for a walk off slam, 28 friggin' years!

Today will tell the tale on whether Niese will need surgery. If he gets clocked like Parnell did, the season's over for Niese with surgery.

Not so upset about Parnell.Never liked him, never dependable, but he's the best we've got, God help us.Good thing yesterday was Niese pitching well.A game we should have won, poor hitting. They are going to have to scramble for a trade or get someone in house to be the closer now.

Watched the entire game last night with my 93 year old Mom, a diehard NY Giant/NY Mets Fan.Nice ceremony for Hank Aaron.

Colon, 40 year old, was amazing! Finally some hitting. If we play like this, they MIGHT make that 80 win total I predict.Gonna be tough without a closer.Valverde looked good but....????

Something's up with Wheeler, too many straight fastballs, not enough pitches with movement. The batters just hang around and wait for a meatball, and "there she goes!" The pitching coaches need to nip that in the bud. As you said, zoo, the result is he's burning through too many pitches early in the game. I think he was up to 88 pitches by the 5th inning last night.

Nofo, I think it also a matter of maturity....he needs steady work and to watch his tapes with the coach...it is still early in the year. I think he'll get there!

Good read. Nofo, 4 runs is not too good.88 pitches by the 5th inning, bad.He needs work. These guys will eat him alive if he doesn't set that fastball up with something offspeed that he can get over the plate.Hopefully, as Dunz said, he will mature and learn.

Would be nice to see that, before he loses his moxie. Niese had that devastating Koufax hook which he seems to have gotten away from.

Yes, great to see Capt Kirk.Tghis is what they were hoping for him.Hate to see Lagares go down but it's Kirk's big chance.

Great to see Mejia pitch effectivbely. He's very young and they had high hopes for him.

Shea Stadium is brand new to me.Anybody here ever attend a Met game at the old Polo Grounds? I did!

Dunz, the way Harang was pitching, it didn't matter. We weren't scoring no matter what.Glad to see Davis go.He turned out to be a flop and the guy killed more rallies with his poor hitting. Hopefully, he'll do better at Pittsburgh.Duda at first could really work out. We'll see. This kid they got from Pittsburgh for Davis could be a relief pitcher. He was 2-0 with an under 1 ERA in the minors.

Harang is pitching way over his head right now.No way he lasts the whole season like this.

Abreu was signed to Triple A Vegas, apparently he's knocking the cover off the ball, batting .402. At 40 years old can't imagine he'll hold up for too long but maybe he can spark the offense if he comes up, Lord knows they could use it.

I have very little confidence in the bullpen but I think these guys need to get away from the straight-line-over-the-plate fastballs and concentrate on ball movement. Pedro Martinez' change-up at the end of his career would dial in at 67 mph and guys would screw themselves into the ground trying to go after it. Same with Dickey but he has that obscure knuckle ball. That's a gift in itself.

This is exceptionally good news about Mejia.he's only 26 years old and was always hoped to be a great starting pitcher.he's really coming through in that role when we need him with Harvey and Niese out.Don't share your optimism about 90 games but 80 sure looks possible if this kid continues to rack up the wins.Davey Wright... Mr. met....!

Yes, Mejia looks unflappable. Starting pitching isn't and hasn't been their problem. I wouldn't expect Farnsworth to be the closer forever, he's certainly got some left in the tank though. Lets see how many "save situations" there are moving forward. Like you said Doc, 1 game at a time.

Yep, the closer situation is a problem.Got to give Collins credit for trying to jury rig something.Right now. it's working with Farnsworth.Tip o' the hat to Dice K for an amazing relief role in the Atlanta extra innings game a few days ago.He might be the next closer if Farnsworth craps out.

Noticed Ike Davis hit a grand salami for Pittsburgh last night.Good for him. That stadium favors lefties.

Nofo, forgot to tell you.I went trout fishing in the Ramapo River last Monday.Got skunked, maybe a hit.Same spot last year nailed at least 25 that day.Go figure.Same spot....different year. That's fishing,LOL.
