Re: Banter Thread 9.0
Surprisingly no heavy rain so far up here. Yesterday it did not rain. So going on two days and very little rain.
However, yesterday I checked my Irises and was disappointed. They have been staying about almost an inch above ground for a while now with no growth. Then this morning I went outside with my coffee. Cue the surprise. They are up about 1.5 inches over yesterday. If I had not made note of it yesterday and reflected on it, I would not have known before and after. Mother Nature hit the gas pedal late last night and got them growing.

Janet, I blame the Mets' record on climate change. As for summer forecasts, if it keeps raining...more drainage, more Moss Out, more lime, more roof cleaner, and more front office changes for the Mets.

Massive plume of ash, SO2 eruption from a Volcano on Indonesia, Ruang Volcano exploded 70k, that went into the Stratosphere. Initial reports have said. Well see upon reanalysis what it actually is and the amounts. VEI 4-6 is what is being said.

If the amounts are as big as satellite shows it should have some effects on our wx for the next 12-18 months. Unl8ke Hunga Tonga that shot water vapor at 88 degrees up and heated up and caused a 5-10% increase in moisture planet wide.

In TODAY'S post...and I am imitating someone from YouTube who posts about weather...I read at lohud.com an article that discussed this summer having temps "slightly above" normal and less precipitation. Isn't that just typical! I get my drainage in and precipitation lessens. Always the bridesmaid and never the bride.

They are going to tweak the cone forecast again to include inland tropical storm and wind advisories. They are also hoping to do 3 hour updates when tracking a storm instead of the 6 hours. Day 4 accuracy of models ranked are NHC, then Euro. Forget UKMET and GFS 4 days out, they are too inconsistent. They also said they will not be adding a Cat 6, since that only measures one hazard, wind. They want to emphasize rainfall and surge hazards as those are the most deadly parts of the storm. The NHC outlook is going to be released May 23rd so we'll see what they say. Also, they will not be expanding the hurricane season to May. They said it will interfere with severe storm season and there aren't enough past storms in May to justify the move.
I also attended an El Nino & Climate change webinar and they are predicting La Nina by August, just in time for peak hurricane season. They are predicting a 35% chance of storm landfall within 50 miles of NJ and a 60% chance of a landfall hurricane west of 60* longitude which will include the gulf.
Going to be interesting to watch, as we have seen around here the remnant rainfalls is what kills us. As wet as this winter has been, I can't imagine the problems we'll see over the next few months.

So the word on the street is a rainy summer if the hurricane season is active and up here we get remnant rain.

That's what I'm afraid of. But, we have had active Atlantic hurricane seasons with many of the storms floating out in the Atlantic and not affecting us directly (besides beach erosion), so there's hope!

yeah, pretty rare, they usually head NE in a semi-straight line. Looks like this one was re-cycling, pretty cool. It has been crazy watching the storm chasers this past week

Well. I'm satisfied. Back to 50% probability of precipitation most of next week.

Did anyone else notice that weather.gov has not updated their main alerts page since 4/24, very odd. Or is it my internet cookies? I am seeing a date of 4/24 on the front page.
