Looks like 9-10" in Franklin Square. Sun shower here too, LOL. Shoveling isn't doing much of anything, just blows right back. Snow is also seeping into my house through any tiny crack, it's so fine. Then it melts and freezes into ice around the doorway. So grateful to Frank and Moderators and other posters here for another excellent forecast on this one. And yeah, we DO need a new ZooKeeper that CAN measure snow...

I will do a storm in review later tonight and will superimpose the interactive member map to see who ended up in the jackpot. For the most part, I'm content with the snow map I issued because parts of western LI and NYC boroughs so 10 inches or more. It was not just jersey shore and central LI with 10+ However, 6-10 would have been a better call than 7-14 since the majority are between 6-9 inches.

In Cranford I measured 6 inches.

Glad it's over. Onto the next one for next week...

10 inches in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. I found 2 places that were shielded from wind and both measured 10 inches and had very even flat accumulations. I hope NWS fixes Central Park total. What a joke. Bothers me so much. Almost everywhere that reported in the 5 boroughs was between 8-12 inches. Then CP with 6. Mess!

the big suprises were s+cnj/philly/del. we received basically what the models showed 6-12". those others areas were only forecast to get 3" or less even rain for some. those areas ended up with a 6-12" inch snow as well. 8 inches officially for me it was hard to measure but the average was just under 8". this was a great storm to track thanks for everybodies input. on to the next one!!!! Very Happy

Welcome to my world, it happens every year, time after time, after time.

Most local Mets know about it but no one ever does anything. Bill Evans use to joke about it with me all the time. He believes the average winter snowfall in NYC is about 5 inches more than what is officially recorded each year. Paul Kocin actually was on the phone with the zookeeper during the February 11 2006 storm that set the record at 26.9, he made them list hourly updates because he knew it could be a record setting event. Without his input that storm would now be recorded as 19.9 or some bogus figure like that.

I could write a book, but who would read it.

THE 2 MOST EGRIGIOUSLY BAD SNOW REPORTS THAT STAND OUT TO ME IN MY LIFETIME ARE THE BLIZZARD OF 96 AND THE DEC 26, 2010 BOXING DAY BLIZZARD. IN 96 WE HAD ABOUT 3 FEET IN BROOKLYN AND OVER 30 INCHES REPORTED ALL OVER THE 5 BOROUGHS. THE ZOOKEEPER RECORDED 20. 20! WE HAD ENOUGH SNOW TO JUMP OFF THE SECOND FLOOR BALCONY DOWN INTO THE FRONT YARD AND DIDNT EVEN FEEL THE GROUND! LOL

DEC 26 2010 WE HAD 30 INCHES IN BROOKLYN AND HIGHER AMOUNTS REPORTED ALL AROUND. WHAT DID CENTRAL PARK GET? YOU GUESSED IT! 20 INCHES.

CPK is a sub par weather station year round. The dubious snow totals, and it is overgrown with vegetation in spring/summer often suppressing correct wind measurements and distorting wind direction and rain totals. Also creating summer time highs lower than surrounding urban areas.

For a time TWC stopped using CPK on its national maps and used LGA for NYC instead. In recent years they have gone back to CPK.

CP YOU WILL LOVE THIS:

I tweeted the Eyewitness news METS "Please teach the Central Park Zookeeper how to measure snow!"

Bill Evans immediately replied: " It was The Red Tail Panda's turn to measure the snow"
