With all the humidity in this unstable atmosphere, expect to see a repeat performance with severe weather later this afternoon and evening. Keep an eye to the sky everyone. If you hear thunder even if the sun is out, lightning is not that far away. Lightning is a killer, be safe! Have a great 4th of July my fellow weather enthusiasts!

Get ready to rumble...(literally).
A large batch of thunderstorms are moving through the area and should overspread everyone within the next 30-60 minutes. Same deal as yesterday, except this time I'm expecting more wind within these storms. Gusts higher than 60 mph possible.

This just went through my backyard.

It was a doozy, took a 10 min video, winds were pretty disappointing, got a gust of about 20 in the beginning but winds tapered down as the rain got heavier, torrential rain and flash frequencies at 1 per second for a large part of that large batch of storms. Was a nice light show. Also no hail, been eluding me pretty well so far. Haven't seen hail in a few years actually.

Getting crushed here....heavy rain training over us, tons of cloud to ground lightning....had some decent winds as the storms approached, down to 73* and now the winds are calm....storms not moving out very quickly.....

Re: July 2014 Observations / Discussions Thread
WOW, the storms here were intense still pouring out. I imagine we had at least several inches. The lightning was crazy and we had very high winds, some damage including a crushed car down the road by a big tree. I will post a pic at some pt. Still going now, but I have not seen a storm like this in a long time. was very exciting. Can we expect anything tomorrow?

Was intense. And like the day before it was storm after storm coming through. This time the winds were much stronger. Trees were down blocking all lanes of the cross Bronx for a time.

It looks like a line forming over the ocean and nj shore is gonna move on shore. Meanwhile the rain N&W with the cold front looks like it's not making much progress S&E. How much rain will we see and when today? I'm kinda confused. Looks like Arthur's rain is more likely than from the front.

Re: July 2014 Observations / Discussions Thread
Humidity returns Monday and Tuesday this week as a stationary upper level low south of the Hudson Bay helps to usher in a southwesterly flow. Temperatures likely at or surpassing 90 degrees both days for most locations, if not, upper 80's. By Wednesday morning, a front draped along the base of a trough moves in to bring rain showers and possible thunderstorms in the morning (perhaps late Tuesday night). By mid-afternoon Wednesday we should be looking at clearing with comfortable temps and lower humidity.
Thursday-Saturday looks like sunshine with temperatures mainly in the low to mid 80's (back to near 90 by Saturday). Next weekend could be another great weekend.
Edit: given atmospheric conditions do not dismiss an isolated non-severe storm Monday/Tuesday as well.

Wow, SPC upped categorical to moderate PA and central to northern NY, thats pretty rare for the northeast, granted its up north but still, and 45% chance severe wind. Some storms may make it down this way but only slight, however Thursday night was slight and look what happened at least for some of us anyways. Hope everyone is dealing ok with this heat.

Frank my wife told me i slept right through a big t-storm last night around 12:30am. Shame on me. Did you see radar it appears a derecho is forming, or at least a very severe gust line. SPC just issued watch for areas east of NYC too saying the stabiity has proved to be unsable here too and it goes till midnight which is kinda rare. Hopefully we don't see too much damage but that line looks even more serious than the one on Thursday night.

ace yeah its kind scaring me im in city until 9pm, I am driving. SPC says most dangerous affects withh be 70mph winds and 1.5 inch hail. Maybe some tornados. I don't think this will weaken a lot. you think i can make it home before it hits southern westchester? With no traffic takes 15-30 min. Is that a derecho heading NE?

Its moving NE, so I'd just drive normal and slow down or stop if you get caught in it. It's moving 50+ so it won't take long to pass when it does hit.jmanley32 wrote:ace yeah its kind scaring me im in city until 9pm, I am driving. An impressive squall line is moving into eastern PA producing dangerous lightning, hail, and causing flash flooding. If there is one thing I have noticed about the storms this year, it is the lightning. Even last night I think there were reports of CTG lightning. Expect this squall line to reach our area between 9:30-10:30pm. Not sure if it will still be this intense once it gets here, but I'm thinking it will.

This could pack close to 70+ mph winds according to SPC, locally. Anyone know the damage hx with this line? So about 10pm around NYC?
