Re: October 2014 Obs and Discussions
As of 7 PM, Central Park, NY has had 4.46" of precipitation for the month of October which means that October 2014 will finish above the average October precip. of 4.40." Also, as of the 7 PM update, CPK has 41.71" of precip on the year meaning it is only 0.21" away from the January-October average of 41.92." The average annual precip. is 49.94" so it could finish the year at or above normal.
Keep in mind that those "averages" are based upon the 1981-2010 period.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what the weather will be like for Halloween and Nov. 1st. I usually take my decorations down the day after Halloween. I'm hoping for a sunny day. Thanks.
Still a little early, but right now I would say sunny and cool. It depends on the timing of a frontal system which will not be realized until late this weekend. Remind me to give you an update. But as of now, expect dry and cool conditions. I think the frontal system makes it out of here by the 30th

Re: October 2014 Obs and Discussions
Nice weekend coming up. Next week looks rather lackluster but it could get to near 70 in the middle of the week ahead of a cold front. It probably will stay in the 60's though. The cold front looks very weak, rain may fall apart by the time it gets here. Right now, only thing worth track is what may happen in early November. I posted an update in the long range thread.
Oh yea, Halloween should be dry too
I'll keep that updated also

Light rain this evening and temp dropped from 63.6* to 52.4 * in one hour as the front moved through. Weekend looking nice and cold, blustery.

Re: October 2014 Obs and Discussions
Well now that the storm won't deepen offshore, it won't bring down a brutal arctic air mass. Plus, sea surface temps are warm off the coast so we need winds out of the northwest to get the coldest temp anomalies.
Saturday temps will be in the low 50's and I don't think we get out of the 40's on Sunday. Sunday night may get to near freezing, especially north and west of NYC.

Re: October 2014 Obs and Discussions
I noted something on my way to work today, I was looking at the trees and visualizing what it would have looked like had it snowed and I notice that a lot more trees than in past several years are bare. I wionder if this is a good sign for upcoming winter season, I hope so I def do not want sleepless tracking only to be let down over and over lake last years second half.

And just like that the new GFS is a little cooler.
Be interesting to see how cold it gets.
