Although 1986 was a great year with a team that beat up the NL all year, they almost lost the World Series but for a gift choke play by Buckner.

The all time best Met Team for my money was the 1969 team who won the World Series against a powerhouse Baltimore team DECISIVELY!

We will see if this year's team will match that when the tough teams come up.

Your right about the Nats, Math. They have all their weapons ready and are sharpening them for the 6 games with us.We have to win the division as we are too far back for any wild card spot.

It's interesting that the Mets have only 33 games left to play and only nine of those games are against winning teams, six against the Nationals and three against the Yankees).  But keep in mind that in 2007, 13 of their last 14 games were against the Nationals and Marlins, who, in that division, were the 4th and 5th place teams, respectively, that year.

2007 and 2008 were classic chokes that remind me of the Phillies September collapse in 1964 when they were 8,9 or 10 games up the first week of that month.

Mets win 3-1. Colon pitched a great game. Terry should have made him finish the game. Familia had another scary 9th inning but it seems like he works really well under pressure. Mets are now 73-58 ( 15 games over .500 ) . They finished the month 20-8 ( first time in over 15 years that they have won 20 games in a single month.) They also hit 45 homers which they haven't had that many homers in a long time. Mets are 13-1 this season against the Phillies.

Good for Bartolo and we can't beat up the Phillies enough.I remember them trashing us in the Victorino-Werth-Charlie Manual days. We're getting help from St.Louis, now 8-5 vs Nats.

Agree he should have let Colon finish as Familia could use some rest.

Nats loseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Mets are now 6.5 games in first place.

Matz had a great rehab outing today. He is most likely going to be activated tomorrow. Now the question becomes what to do with him.

Been reading articles Collins does not want to use him in relief.Let's see how this new guy (Reed?) we got works out.Don't know what to thnk, Matz can be a killer weapon as a starter.

Well, that was ugly, Niese sucks, we need Matz NOW! Parnell and Torres didn't help either. On the verge of deciding whether I want to buy playoff tickets, I need to decide by Thursday. It's a lot of money, but who knows when they'll be playing this well again, don't know if this will continue next year the way this team plays like yo-yo

And the Nationals lose to the Cardinals again so the Mets magic number is down to 25.

6.5 game lead, 6 in the loss column.

Another game off the schedule.

Looks like the Nats are going to win unless they blow the lead in the 9th. Mets will still be up 6.5 games.

Well since there is no Mets game to talk about tonight, I was lucky enough to get 7 line army tix for 10/4 and have an extra ticket if anyone is interested. I also bought a strip of playoff tickets, 12 games total if they get to the series. From what I can guess, we will probably face the Dodgers first if we hang on to first place and win the division outright. LGM!

The once mighty Atlanta Braves are now a Triple A team.Teams getting fat off of them, the Yanks just murdered them as well.

The big showdown coming up .Gotta take at least two out of three against the Nats.

What a terrible display by the bullpen. This team is not going to go far into the playoffs ( if they make it ) with this bullpen. You can't rely on anyone except for Clippard and Familia. Mets left way too many men on base tonight. That hurt them tonight. Can they please get rid of O Flaherty. He is really terrible. This team better get their act straight. Nats are 5 games behind now. Terry Collins better use his noodle. He has made stupid choices this season.

This bullpen weakness will eliminate us early in the playoffs if we even get there.Nats are getting hot and they are at full strength.

Last night reminded me of the '07 amd '08 choke years, losing to weak teams. We should be sweeping Miami right now.

Only hope right now is for the starters to finish at least 7 innings to get to Clippard and Familia.Starters have to throw strikes and keep the pitch counts down.

To your point about Collins leaving in lefty O'Flaherty against righty Prado....a bonehead mistake!

It's not just the pitching, it's the infield too. With Murph and Duda out, 1st and 2nd base have been a problem. There were a few balls hit through holes that would not have been if we had Duda at first and Murph at 2nd. Weak right side making mistakes and not getting outs....

This team will be in major trouble if they lose this series or even get swept. This is the time of the year where you have to win every series. The Nats are starting to get hot. The bullpen really scares me. Having Duda, Murphy and Cuddy out aren't helping the situation. It is making it worse.

They have also been relying on the long ball, not going to hit HRs in that crazy ballpark in Miami... a couple of balls hit last night would have been out elsewhere.

Harvey just said he's not pitching more than 180 innings this season. The Mets organization and fans were under the impression he did not have an innings limit. Harvey should have told the Mets earlier than SEPTEMBER this was his intention. Pretty stunning news.

Hmm didn't see that, knew he met with the media and they discussed the innings limit, on one side, he said he trusted his doctor who strongly suggested he doesn't go over 180, then he says, "whatever it takes to get us to the playoffs", so I really don't know....

This would really stink.Remember when the Nats shut down Strasberg on innings a few years ago.Cost them a shot at the Series.Matz is coming back and if he excels, it would help out Harvey's inning number.

Not worried about this as much as the bullpen and the recent injuries to key players.

As I have said, a division win is the only way to the playoffs, the Cubs and Pirates have the wild cards.
