Re: December 2015 Observations & Discussions
Yes the chill next weekend being normal December temperatures for a few days.
When Al tells us yesterday that a cold front is coming through and highs will be in the 50's??? you just have to shake your head and say, wow this is about as bad as it gets.
I'm about to the point where I'm ready to embrace this rather than fight it.
There's an old story in one of the positive thinking books:
A lone kid in his back yard with a ball and a bat, before throwing the ball up in the air to hit it declares, "I'm the greatest hitter in the world", he promptly swings and misses. He goes through the same routine five times with the same result, after he misses the fifth time he then declares, "Wow I'm the greatest pitcher in the world".
And this is the attitude I will now take with this winter or lack thereof.

DelMar Weather says...
"A lot of talk about this monster storm system that will settle into the Bering Sea. What Is very important with a storm in this region is the effects of a week or 2 in the future. This will cause a significant pattern change to occur around the 19th of December with much colder air across the country.
The science behind the location of this storm lies within a large buckling of the jet stream. This allows a ridge in the western US with a deep trough in the eastern US. Direct shot of arctic air should funnel down the pipeline."

Thanks for posting. Here is a look at the monster stoem the article is referring to.
940mb low. VERY strong. Here is another look. Draw your attention to the Baring Sea, west of Alaska over Aleutians. 935mb low!
I didn't read the article but what this cyclone is doing is basically turning out EPO from positive to negative. The higher heights over Alaska allows cold air to stream into the central and eastern US. We'll see this happen over our area next weekend. We'll probably not get out of the 30's one day and 40's another day. Here's a look at the positive heights over Alaska and cold entering US.
The cold next weekend will not last. The cyclone dissipates and is replaced by a ridge. A trough moves back into the western US and a ridge follows over the east by Christmas week.

Look at CPK daily High/Low for the month, and if the lows were highs instead, it still might avg above normal.

It WAS a beach day! I went to Seaside and it was great! Surfers in the water, lots of boats out, folks on the boardwalk. Some games and stores were open and of course the bars were open! It was a good break from the holiday mayhem.

Re: December 2015 Observations & Discussions
to add insult to injury with this crap "winter weather" we are in desperate need of rain and the NWS just cut down our expected totals for this week by almost half. Now tonight looks like only a quarter of an inch when this morning the forecast was for .5 to .75. Just can win in this "hell nino'" (Doc)

Has been raining all day in Plymouth. Gray WFO had WWA up for Central Maine, and WSW up for Northern Maine. They had some decent accumulations.syosnow94 wrote:to add insult to injury with this crap "winter weather" we are in desperate need of rain and the NWS just cut down our expected totals for this week by almost half.
