02/05 "Surprise" Storm Obs. / Final Call Snow Map

All I can say right now is wow. It is pouring down snow as hard as it ever was during Jonas. I will be at 8" IMBY by 10:30. at this rate. Can somebody nearby please confirm so I don't sound like I'm exaggerating!!

Yes sadly 1 person dead two seriously injured and a whole hell of a lotta cars totaled. And the front façade of some buildings damaged to unstable condition. I wonder was it all the snow clinging to it and some wind, up that high there had to be some wind. Lightly snowing now in the Bronx, my commute was actually better than on a clear day, lol go figure.

Floral park (right near where math lives) had 3.5 inches officially at 7 am. They have to be over 6 now and that is in the city limits. WTF?

Before I left at about 745 I would say I had about 3-4 so Al keep track cuz it sounds like we are right around same amount. Lightly snowing in Bx now, not sure about Yonkers.

sroc if you look at the radar returns from all the way down the jersey shore and out into the ocean it is all really heavy 1.5" per hour plus moving right at us. That's at least 3 more hours maybe more of s+. We could easily be into the double digits by noon no??

Its ripping by me right now also and I measured just under 7" a few minutes ago so you are def not exaggerating. Im in East northport which is fairly close to you.

have not gone out yet to measure, but still snowing pretty hard here in Hazlet...FB lit up with Mom's complaining that school was closed..I am happy to have my buddy home safe and sound.. Husband's office had 2.5 hour delay he just left(love this company-his old law firm wanted to know why they were not in the office the day after Sandy!)His parting words were have a great day and I hope they still have bagels waiting for us this morning..lol

it happens in marginal events like this. The suburban landscape can make all the difference. All the subways and other infrastructure underground can tip the scale the wrong way when its just barely cold enough to snow. White rain.

I am in the Wainscott/ East Hampton area. Measured 2.5" of snow at 9:45 AM. Was a very wet snow which only began to accumulate about 7AM. Snowing quite heavily at present.

Yes, I agree, and I think we should institute a "snow re- distribution" program to correct this iniquity of people S and E always being in the "top 1%" of snow wealth!!! We in the N and W snow deprivation zones are going to organize protests and camp out in LI and Coastal Jersey, "snoccupy S and E 2016!!!"

Nice dark, dark green heading right at me for the next 3 hours.  I just measured a little over 8" on my backyard table.  I foot or bust is now my rallying cry!!!

WHY DOES THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE EVEN EXIST!!! They just included Nassau County in the warning for a total of 4-8" I'm there already with another 3 to 4" incoming. Why are they ALWAYS so late to the party?

just went out to measure...just under 3 inches..still snowing hard...we too are in the dark green right now..

Yeah Al watching out my work window, im one of the few lucky senior care managers to have a window. Granted its the ghetto but at least I can watch the snow. Wish I was home though perfact for a snowman with my daughter. Has not done one yet is almost 3.

Back edge quickly breaking up in Jersey. Need 1 more inch to reach double digits. Foot not gonna happen for me. Maybe out east sroc4 way.

Snow has stopped completely and the roads more traveled are clear. I didn't get much more snow since the reported 3".
