You buying into my snow map yet? SREFS/NAM pretty wet this morning...
There is no question you have model support. None. The only thing that concerns me is there's NOTHING slowing this down. Remember the last big one we had this season? The EURO tried doing the same thing and busted badly; it was well overdone with the QPF rates. Granted, there is basically UNANIMOUS support for your ideas, but what it really boils down to is I, personally, am just gun-shy of going with such widespread high totals. Think about it; that is saying areas get 40" between about 06-20z. That's 14 hours. Even 24" would be hard to get to in my opinion in 14 hours, as you would need much of the event to be 2"/hr rates. Then, the preceding airmass is so dry, you'll lose some of your initial precip to saturation, so now you're figuring "safely" on getting 24" in 10-12 hours of precip. Assuming even the first and last hours are lighter, that leaves you 8-10 hours of heavy snowfall. Now you need to average 3"/hr over that entire duration. I don't know, it just seems a little too far fetched for me, mathematically speaking, let alone 40". You see what I'm saying?

So take your pick RB, 33 inches in Fishkill or 38 at your parents house. Sounds like a win win either way. crazy run.
I am seriously considering telling work that I don't care, I'm going home and won't be back until next week because this is once in a lifetime if it happens this way. Then I'll get to play in it too.
but you won't have internet

The question is which one of these models has a handle on the situation better. I think a slight tick east or west means the difference of as much as 10 inches for part of the area.

Gotta watch, some snow maps account sleet as snow. It's best to use soundings and tell whether a certain frame is snow, sleet, or rain. But they're not too easy to read for the average person. That's why I use 850mb.

Is that even physically possible? 4-6" per hour? That is like a summer thunderstorm but with snow. You probably couldn't even breathe if you were standing in it. Which I just might try. Once in a lifetime!
