How about so far north and west so that I experience good snow in Montreal on Friday???? Oh yeah, it will stay in the NYC region while I endure suppression depression...

If you want to see snow take a drive to Erie,PA, just saw on TWC that they had 53" in the last 30 hrs.with another 12 to18"still to come. Lake effect in full force.

And if you don't want to drive that far go to the tug hill plateau region of NY. Some spots are expecting well over 100 inches over the next 2-4 days.

Not many people like cold/dry. I am hoping we see at least a minor snowfall this weekend to accompany all this cold. EURO Ensembles still show many members with a 2-4/3-6 inch type.

Some good news...as mentioned in the LR thread the western ridge is shown to spike. As a result, the EURO last night showed a fantasy snowstorm on January 4th.

You had a lot of confidence it seemed for this week to new years is spike a even greater confidence?Frank_Wx wrote:Some good news...as mentioned in the LR thread the western ridge is shown to spike. I would not say I had a lot of confidence for this weekend. Someone asked if I liked the chance for it to snow and I simply replied yes. I still think snow snow is possible this weekend. It was never a Godzilla type set-up. I never advertised it as that either.

Re: Wx Banter Thread 2.0
Is there any good reason for any human being to be standing in Times Square on New Year's Eve in these predicted temperatures? I've done it three times (long ago when I was younger and not as smart), the first two times with similar temperatures to this. I'd be lying if I said it was fun. Why I did it a second and third time, I don't know. My recommendations for NYE: stay home with a few cocktails, or go to a nice, warm, neighborhood bar that doesn't attract big crowds.

I will stay home, and have some champagne but not at midnight... We drink early. My parents are in bed by 8 or so.

I got ya beat when it snows, I start at 5AM and finish around 5PM usually, and sometimes even later. Course its not all the time, and only if we get a decent snowfall... But still, I know the feeling quite well!

Re: Wx Banter Thread 2.0
What I notice inside is the wood stove does not put out the heat when it is around zero outside-it only keeps the house around 70; -10 or colder, the cold just seems to come through the walls. I can put my hands up and feel the cold about six inches away from the wall. I start adding coal to the stove and it makes a difference. What makes it a hoot tonight is we lost power and we are running the generator. I can't imagine standing out in the cold for hours just for fun. I can imagine staying indoors and drinking glog!

The Fahrenheit and Celsius temperature scales meet at -40 degrees. I am currently in Montreal and the wind chill this morning got down to -40 degrees Fahrenheit and Celsius.

Lmao! So true. What a wonderful opportunity to post pics of themselves doing something really “cool” so their friends can “like” it in hopes of them “liking” or “retweet” the next photo or obnoxious political comment they themselves post! When I went there was no social media and no cellphone cameras. We were content to display our stupidity just to those around us.

Re: Wx Banter Thread 2.0
It's so damn cold out that the little snow shower we had Christmas Eve still has lawns covered in white and still has cars that haven't moved yet covered with snow still. If we had gotten hit with a big storm this snow would have gone nowhere anytime soon. If we get hit Tuesday I wonder how long the snow will last. For like the next 7-10 days the forecast still says high temps won't even get near freezing. I feel sorry for those standing in the NYE party in the city. I'll be home nice and warm.

Good point Hector.Had we all gotten a foot of snow a week earlier, we would be looking at a nice long stretch with a good snowpack.I barely have a few inches and 'possibly" will get an inch tomorrow. This is reminding me of the 1976-1977 winter, brutally cold but dry.Not my kind of winter at all.Hardly any snow and my heating bill goes way up.

Interesting stuff. The warmest and coolest temps for the ball drop NYE. It looks like 1996 was a very cold episode, factoring in wind.
