Just went back. Soon as I hit the Suffolk sign all rain. Then as I pass the commack exit, a convoy of DOT trucks loaded with salt got on heading to Nassau

Re: January 16th-17th Snow Event
With temps in the 20s would easily have 3” here already, instead have about 1”. It’s puking huge flakes for 2 hours now but just compacting. Ratio has to be like 6:1

Yup, that's exactly what happened. The band was from Poughkeepsie north. My daughter drove up route 9 from Fishkill last night and said a few miles north of Poughkeepsie Galleria is where it was accumulating. Measured 7.5 in Hyde Park.

Re: January 16th-17th Snow Event
Incredibly weird storm. Doc snowed for nearly 24 hours and wound up with a little over 3”. Here it rained on and off and we are just about at about 1.5” of heavy real wet slushy snow in under three hours. Then a 5 minute drive south and 15 minute drive east it’s rain.

According to the radar, the changeover is coming into suffolk now. This radar has been accurate all morning. Good program

Re: January 16th-17th Snow Event
Intensity here has just now lightened a bit. Interesting to see if it melts instantly as it ends soon

Doc how is Middletown right near you over 6” but you just over 3”?

Re: January 16th-17th Snow Event
Snow is in fact melting pretty rapidly as the intensity decreases. Now only light snow. Still get to add over an inch to my yearly total. Now up to 26” with February to go. Hope to make a run at 40” after this next 8-10 day thaw.

Right, Jimmy, and a little north and west of me, 5, 6 and 7 inches were reported.

LOL, Jimmy, I actually went out to shovel the walk and used my ruler,LOL.I must say I had eyeballed 3.25 so I wasn't that far off.CP a little north of me he might have done better.Funny thing is, before I joined the old Channel 7 Board, after over 40 years of observing snowstorms in this area, I never even bothered getting interested unless they were talking 12 inches plus. Now, with this board, it's fun to see the results all over the area and to see just how interesting these snowstorms are with the different amounts of snow over a wide area.On to the next one!!!!!

Yes it is Jim sad to say so we go into hibernation for a week and see what is what. All mest I have talked to are saying Feb through early march we rebound and nicely as a good number of indicators are pointed towards.

Gotta call you out on this one. I am in the town right next to you, and no way no how is there anything close to 1" to 1.5" on the ground. It has been snowing steadily for over 3 hrs. and NOTHING has stuck to the ground at all. There is nothing there to be measured.

GreyBeard look at the picture I posted on the last page. That was at 9:45. It snowed hard for another hour and a half after that. It’s still snowing. You think I’m going to lie about an inch?
