How Weather Carries Covid-19
Hey guys!
I am sorry for not being more present but obviously the lack of winter weather has kept me hibernated. I'm also extremely disappointed with all of these sports suspending their seasons but that is the right call to make in a time like this. I came across something very cool from WeatherOptics, a group I follow. Check it out below.

This index predicts the likelihood of spread based ONLY on weather conditions: https://client.weatheroptics.net/coronavirus-transmission
There is preliminary research that STRONGLY indicates weather plays a significant role in the transmissibility of COVID-19. Two of the most important factors include temperature and humidity, especially when looking at the ability for the virus to survive on various surfaces & in the air.
Using this research (which can be viewed in more detail by clicking on the links below) in combination with NCEP's GFS model, we have successfully been able to model the probability of COVID-19 spreading looking ONLY at weather-related factors.
Over the next several days, our team will expand our current page to include more countries as well as zoomed in views of different regions and cities around the world. The data will update on our page around 1 AM EDT each night with a 5-day forecast.
Much of the research that went into this index came from: https://ssrn.com/abstract=3550308 (Temperature & Latitude Analysis to Predict Potential Spread & Seasonality for COVID-19). This study found a number of weather-related similarities between regions experiencing the worst outbreaks.
The most notable similarities were that weather patterns across regions worst hit by COVID19 had temperatures mostly between 5°-11°C (41°-52°F) & humidities between 47%-79%. The cities looked at in the study also did not dip below 0°C (32°F), suggesting a possible temp minimum.
The index that we have made freely available to the public is an experimental tool that should be utilized as such. We ask that for more info about COVID-19 you visit https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html or https://www.who.int/emergen…/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019
You can contact us at info@weatheroptics.net for questions about our new index.

Re: How Weather Carries Covid-19
I am interested in how this plays out from a weather perspective. I have friends in Brazil, who think this is a joke and if it's not it will not effect them due to the warm weather they have. Lets see...We are very fortunate to be in our cocoon at home...husband working and child at his computer doing school work..he loves being home schooled so far..and we are bending rules to allow him to play on his games during the afternoons to have that social contact with his friends. A little nippy today, but I think a walk around the block will do us and the dogs good..as long as no one is around..
STAY SAFE STAY SANE!!

Absolutely it is very healthy and necessary to get out of your house and get some fresh air, UV rays and exercise. It is good for your mental and physical being!
What is happening in Itlaia is down right scary and unfathomable for us in this modern era. Today alone of 4K new cases and 400 deaths
I hate to say this BUT two friends who are md's at Columbia - one a leading thoracic surgeon and teh other a hematologist have both been instructed that they will be removed from tehir usual duties and will be available to assist with diagnosing and caring for COVID 19 patients. Yesterday they said they had 69 news patients moved in ICU and 18 into intubation. This is only the beginning peeps.
Teaching from home is actually quite good and relaxing to a major degree. Please heed the warnings everyone it may be a while but in the end we'll be back
