Christmas Greetings and a few gifts for the board from Santa
After what has been a tough year for everyone, I hope that everyone has a Merry Christmas and a wonderful holiday! Try if possible to focus on the good things in life for at least this one day and spend it with family/friends (even if it's virtually).
To celebrate Christmas, Santa appears to have brought a few gifts for members on the board (sorry, I couldn't include everyone or I'd be here all day! But rest assured he left something for everyone. Lol) and left them under our virtual Xmas/Festivus Tree. Here is a sampling of what was found:
For CP: The appointment of a “Select Committee on the Undercounting of Snow Totals in Central Park” to review snow measurements over the past 30 years. A diligent investigation reveals mass undercounting and the totals are corrected, putting Central Park’s 30-year winter snowfall average over 30”.
For JMan: A wind-storm that verifies. Sustained wind speeds hit 50 mph over several hours with 100 mph gusts region-wide. Yet strangely we all awake to find no damage and no power outages. Scientists and structural engineers are stumped, but they call it a Christmas Miracle.
For Sroc: A winter storm track that begins days before the event, and not once does any member of the board jump on or off the train based on a single model run. Yes, that’s right, an entire storm tracking without a single member of this board engaging in model hugging. They are rewarded at the end with a region wide heavy snowfall, that jackpots over eastern Long Island.
Frank: A true region wide Frankzilla that takes the perfect track up the coast to the benchmark into a solid cold air mass with no mixing or changeover issues leaving 40” of snow (accurately measured now in Central Park) where your snow map need not contain any “losers” just “winners”; Bonus gift since he’s our leader: A Nutella flavored craft beer to enjoy during the storm.
Alex: A “makeup” storm for last week that defies meteorological norms and dumps 40” of snow on Long Island, while dousing Binghamton in a cold rain. Much like the damage-less windstorm for Jman, scientists are stumped.
Math: A computer device that will allow all the weather data/memories in your head to be downloaded for review by the board when you aren’t logged in. Wait. That’s more a gift for us. Hmm. Ok, fine, 50” of snow in Albany when you are there and not in Bellerose.
Amugs: A negative AO/NAO that appears on the Long Range teleconnection models five weeks out and doesn’t change leading to weeks of cold and coastal storms that verify in the Long Range, followed by the largest volcano eruption in the history of the world, that (like Jman’s windstorm anomaly) somehow causes no death and destruction but lowers global temperatures enough to give us a decade of slightly BN temps in the winter.
Rb: More reliable computer weather models that back up your expert analysis rather than causing you angst as you try to explain why they aren’t showing what you’re talking about. And a rare LBI snowstorm like the ones you knew from PA.
Algae: A better PAC and the much needed 50/50 low you’ve been yearning for arrives after New Years Day.
SENJSnowman,Weathermom, Skinsfan: A storm that brings snow all the way down to the furthest reaches of the Jersey coast with no sleet or rain mixed in, leaving behind a good packing snow for making snowmen in the yard or tossing some snowballs.
Dayblazer: A traditional snowstorm that buries NWNJ with jackpot snows erasing bad memories of last winter.
SoulSing: An 1888 style nor’easter requiring Blizzard Warnings, providing the perfect meteorological conditions for you to do a “case study” for your Meteorology class - and Upton beats Mount Holly to the punch issuing their warnings first.
Dunzoo: A new snow measuring board and weather station, that arrive on your doorstep as the Mets sign George Springer.
Docstox: With everyone above getting what they want from the weather, the radiation damage on OTI begins to ease and the island become inhabitable 99,999 years ahead of schedule as Parliament reconvenes and the Coconut Lounge opens – not as refuge from disappointing weather, but a place to celebrate our good fortune.
And last, but not least, for EVERYONE on the board, named or not named here: A Peaceful Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

That was cool and funny. Yeah wouldn't that be ideal. A exciting windstorm with no damage. Happy holidays to everyone!! Can't say I'm in the best of moods today with all going on but trying my best just got a bunch Xmas cookies and prolly eat at Applebee's as they have a turkey dinner either tonight or tomorrow. Not sure which will be worse in terms of wx. It's a absolute madhouse out here I'm try do some food shop and stocking stuffers for daughter. Bad idea to wait till Xmas Eve. Traffic nuts even on normal roads.

I'd love to see that happen to Binghamton after what they just got. I'm sure they wouldn't mind either.

This. Is. AWESOME!!! Haha Merry Christmas to all of my fellow weather nerds, and maybe, just maybe, some of the above Christmas gifts will just be delayed from their Christmas Day delivery, not denied. I’m not sure if Mother Nature or the Weather Gods offer overnight shipping, at least for a reasonable price for Santa
