Frank your snow map was right on the money for my location. It's snowing so hard I can't even see my shed that's 60 feet across the yard from my house. Incredible ! We're definitely going to get over 2' with no problem.

Really? Not seeing that from CC radar
heehaw453 wrote:I did a real crap job measuring. Between some sleet and compaction. It's about 16" or so right now. I'm sure a few more inches will be squeezed out in the next day or so.
Moderate snow 29.3/29
Nice! You deserve every inch for you're call a week ago. Nicely done.
Zhukov1945 wrote:Can someone much smarter than me explain in simple terms why much of West NJ had an afternoon of sleet that seemed totally disconnected from the mix line generally? Saw something about the jet but still not clear to me why areas East didn't seem to have this feature, or at least not for anywhere near the duration...
Like normally I get a sleet line moving south to north or east to west but today it seemed like sleet advanced and then just parked itself in an isolated area of NJ surrounded by snow. Weird.
As Mugs said, there was a warm layer around 800mb. Those are pretty unpredictable unless you are constantly looking at soundings.

Thanks, but I definitely busted toward southern areas I think. I'll wait until tomorrow to check.

Another piece of upper energy phases into the trough tonight and these bands keep re-developing. I think most of CNJ/NNJ/NYC and LI can be 3-6 inches tomorrow.

Frank lets say this storm was the same evolution and formation and banding but it was not being blocked up from moving, would totals be like half what we are seeing?

That's incredible! Great for you, barely snowing lightly here. Just 24 hours ago, I thought my area would be in the CCB banding as was being predicting. Not only did we miss out on a big chunk of those, we ended up getting way more mixing than I thought we would. You just never know.

Is that in addition to what falls overnight or what you expect total from now till then? I can say I have seen snow like this before but i do not think i have seen snow this long that i can ever remember. And the fact that we are talking about a potential on sunday for anyone who hasnt looked at the SCI or LR thread, could be another decent sized storm. Crazy so much for not a good winter.Frank_Wx wrote:Another piece of upper energy phases into the trough tonight and these bands keep re-developing. If there was no block we would all be 35 degrees, raining, 0 inches of snow.
It would have been a cutter.

Son pulled a Sroc from a few years ago and threw himself in the snow..I tried to tell him the sleet made it hard..lol..we had about 14.5 inches.. I am very happy ..lets see what tom brings. We did get a snow day for tom..parts of town lost power this morning so it was a freaking mess for Virtual for some. My sister in Byram def has more than 2 feet of snow so far. WHAT A STORM...

9:40 pm and temp is 28 degrees. Still snowing pretty good. Wind has picked up a bit...21ish mph. I saw two deer in the front, snow up to their bellies and struggling to walk in the snow. Going to be a hell of a cleanup tomorrow. It is surprising to me how hard it is snowing as in intensity and duration. Still going with no lulls. A doozy of a storm. Maybe about the most I have ever seen. Great stuff.

Just spoke to my parents, confirmed 4-5”/rates there as of maybe a half hour ago. Rapidly eclipsing the 2’ mark. 24 hours or more to go. They’re gonna come close lol the ONE weekend where they changed my work schedule. I’m regretting not playing hookie SO BADLY right now lmfao

Precip has slowed down here, but gained another inch over the last 2 hours. Winds down as well. Total so far, 21", until those bands over the ocean head over in a few hours....
