Not going to be a big snow event in our neck of the woods as of this morning's NWS CP. If the back end proves stronger we could get a few additional inches on top of the slop pile they say we are getting,3 to 5 inches.Damian and Hyde will do a little better than us.This is a classic "areas N and W of the City" type storm that frequently hit this area in the 60's and 70's.Maybe a slight tick east can give us an inch or two more but time is running out now, almost nowcast.

Tonga tsunami, quite impressive that it propagated all the way to stations in the coast of Mexico (Manzanillo over 1.4m) and California... Here is a order one attempt to model this tsunami @geosmx #geoclaw pic.twitter.com/drzz5GMHJK

The world's highest concentration of sulfur dioxide (SO2) is currently located in the South Pacific, near the Tongan volcano.
— Ben Noll (@BenNollWeather) January 17, 2022
This toxic gas will cause acid rain in the region
It looks unlikely that enough SO2 will reach the stratosphere to cause a global cooling effect. pic.twitter.com/h26mEWqaCM
Interesting
Big earthquakes cause the solid earth to ring like a bell, what seismologists call normal modes. Looks like the Tonga eruption rang the atmosphere. https://t.co/Zq5C8oX8yn

Every winter is a winter of missed opportunities. Sometimes we just get lucky and enough of them come together.

Yep, the most likely scenario is usually not sig snow unfortunately. It's an anomaly when it occurs...
