February 3rd. Interesting day in history.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/today-day-music-died-100708575.html
Most of you were not even born but I remember that day in 1959 as my teen age sister and her friends were heartbroken over rock and roll icons Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper dying in the plane crash. If you know your rock and roll history, it had only broken big in early 1956 when Elvis signed with RCA and released Hound Dog and Heartbreak Hotel.
February 3rd 1961--The last major snowstorm of the classic 1960-1961 winter (over 54 inches in CPK) started.Dropped over 20 inches in Fort Lee by the 4th.Read in the paper that day it had mixed with sleet and rain for a very brief period overnight but changed back to all snow.Rest of February and March were pretty snowless with much milder temps.

What an unbelievable map made by Eric Webb of observed/actual snowfall from last weekend's Godzilla. Not quite a Godzilla N&W, but east and south for sure.

Yeah it looks very good. Very accurate for Barnegat and my back yard in EPA.

The day the music died, doc, as so appropriately lyricized by Don Mclean. Such a sad day in rock and roll history, and for the world. Interestingly enough, it was actually the weather caused the pilot to lose control, and caused them to even charter the plane in the first place because they didn’t want to subject themselves to the cold bus rides anymore.

Hey the NYC S&E folks deserved a thread! There’s a snow hole over you and Janet this winter. I’m not sure what the cure is, but CP sacrificed himself for the entire month of February so maybe the mid-month storm spreads the white gold around more

Re: Banter Thread 7.0
Wow, what a dismal day. And a rather poor start over all to the month that follows directly in the footsteps of the best month the Shore has seen in years! I definitely empathize with all the frustration stretching from heehawville all the up to CPway. But the geographic, topographic and climatory expanse of this board seems to mean we have ‘winners’ and ‘losers’ amongst us every year. Through January, the winners for this year are SNJ (BIG surprise) and LI (no real surprise there).
Since the Jan 3 storm, the pattern has been locked in, and seems to be still leaning moderately towards S and E. After 4 weeks of not budging, until the pattern does budge, I just figure it will continue. Weather the Shore can repeat the Jan success with snowfall this month is another question altogether. January is BY FAR the most successful snow month for the Shore. The freak blizzard of March 21, 2018 is the only time the Shore has accumulated more than 6” outside of January in the past 10 years. This past weekend’s blizzard marked the 6th or 7th time that it’s happened in January in that same span.
The good news for many of you is that Feb and early March really favor the inland sections substantially over the coastal sections. At least that’s been true ever since I moved to coastal Ocean county in 2012. Aside from the month of January as a whole, the snowiest period for the Shore has been weeks 2-3 of March. And it’s not even that close. At least 4-5 storms of 4-6” from March 5-15 in the past 10 years have hit the Shore.
So, no guarantee, but the odds are starting to tilt heavily in the favor of the nw sections (at least historically) and with all the volatility we’ve had, I fully expect at 2-3 more chances to get locked into the crosshairs of a good storm.
In the meantime, as for myself, all of my wishes for the winter have already been fulfilled, and while I’d like my cup to runneth over, I’m taking a VERY CHILLED approach at the moment…
And if I neglected to say so before- Thank you all so much for the effort, input and immense value you all brought to what was probably the most fun week of tracking and cashing in I’ve ever had!

Who remembers this storm?? 3 days of snow - county trucks and garbage trucks plowed us out of our town. City of Paterson was paralyzed for a 7 days. Cars abandoned on Interstate 80 was an indelible scene and again in 1983's blizzard.

I was real young kid, but i sure as hell remember that one! Storm Field coming on the air saying Allentown PA reported 5 inches of snow in the past hour. He was getting pretty concerned of the impacts. Can remember my friend's parents having to abandon their vehicle on highway. Even roads that were getting plowed (not many) snow piled up too quickly.

Was this 78 or 83. I was 8 in 78. Snow was as tall as me it seemed. Memorable. 83 was the night when Marvin Hagler beat Tony Sibson? I had to walk to a friends 13th birthday party. Fun days

Memorable winter of 1977-1978. There had been a big snowstorm shortly before this one.
The Feb. 1983 one had rates of 3 inches an hour for 6 hours straight. Stood in front of my house in Mahwah maybe 30 feet away and could barely see it.That's the one that Mr.G was freaking out with,LOL.It was no fun digging out my 1977 Ford Granada.

And what happened to showers on and oiff yesterday, no one said all night into today too, hate it it sucks such a missed opportunity. Well hopefully 2022-2023 will be better.

Re: Banter Thread 7.0
This is what I see and hear many doing which is fine at this point but we still have about 5 weeks of winter left IMO. Interesting how peeps are saying if we don't have snow then bring on the warmth.... we live in a colder climate you know in the NE here, not in Mary's land or Virginia LOL! Funny as a kids growing up and even the older folks did not care if it was cold in winter - it's what its suppose to be is what they would always say to us. The ol' war vets would say - it makes you tough. Winter makes you appreciate spring and summer and then summer makes you appreciate fall and then you get ready for winter.
