"Northeast Snowstorms" Candidates for Cases? Empty "Northeast Snowstorms" Candidates for Cases?

Post by Math23x7 Thu Feb 12, 2015 7:40 pm

So I have been reading "Northeast Snowstorms Volume II: The Cases" co-authored by Paul Kocin (formerly on the Weather Channel) and Louis Uccellini. Since it was released in 2004, I thought it was be useful to talk about recent snowstorms that should be included if it does get updated, including hits and near misses. Note: Not all of these necessarily affected NYC.
A) Cases (to go along with the 32 Selected ones from 1950-2003):
1) January 22-23, 2005
2) February 11-12, 2006
3) December 19-20, 2009
4) February 5-6, 2010
5) February 9-10, 2010
6) February 25-26, 2010
7) December 26-27, 2010
8 January 11-12, 2011
9) January 26-27, 2011
10) February 8-9, 2013
11) February 12-14, 2014
B) "Near-miss" storms
1) Moderate snowstorms:
a) January 27-28, 2004
b) December 26-27, 2004
c) February 21, 2005
d) February 24, 2005
e) February 28-March 1, 2005
f) December 9, 2005
g) February 22, 2008
h) March 1-2, 2009
i) January 2, 2010
j) January 21, 2012
k) March 6-8, 2013
l) January 2-2, 2014
m) January 21, 2014
n) February 3, 2014
o) March 2-3, 2014
p) March 16-17, 2014
q) January 26-27, 2015
2) Interior Snowstorms
a) February 13-14, 2007
b) December 26, 2012
c) December 29, 2012
3) Ice Storms:
a) February 13-14, 2007 (as mentioned above)
b) March 16-17, 2007
c) February 2, 2011
d) February 5, 2014
e) February 2, 2015
C) Early and Late Season snowstorms
1) Early Season Snowstorms
a) October 29-30, 2011
b) November 7-8, 2012
c) November 26-27, 2014
2) Late Season Snowstorms
a) April 15-16, 2014 (maybe?)
Note: Outside of this, I cannot think of any April/May northeast snowstorms since 2004 but I do have two which I believe were excluded from the book:
b) April 9, 2000
c) April 7, 2003

This is just my list.  This is simply to promote discussion as to which storms deserve to be included as KU (Kocin/Uccellini) cases.

October 4th somewhere around 1988 or so. 14 inches in the Hudson Valley from Midnight to around 7 am. Caused tons of devastation. I was up there at the time at my uncles in Pawling. Trees snapped like toothpicks from the weight and no power for weeks. national guard was called in.
