March 2015 Observations & Discussions
After a top 5 coldest February in history...March comes roaring in like a lion. 3 events all coming in a 1-week span. Crazy!!!

Re: March 2015 Observations & Discussions
May end like a lion as well after a warm up mid month - JB and PT are saying that the EPO goes neg and PNA spike positive with lots of storminess action rolling across the country - could lead to coastals. Only time will tell but very impressive start - actually maybe historic.

In CPK true, but not here. Two years ago we had 23.8 inches in March when CPK had 7.3 for the month. Pay back is a bitch.
They went ahead of March 1996 by 0.4 inches, maybe more if CPK counts the snow that fell after 4:00 pm today.

And the final tally comes in at 7.5 inches in Central Park.
42.5 inches for the season in CPK, their 31st snowiest season since 1870.
49.1 inches for the season at LGA which is about what CPK has actually had this year give or take an inch.

-2.0 degrees on March 6, you just have to love it.
Even though we were ripped off here with 1.6 inches of snow yesterday it's enough to make things perfect again. It's killing me not being able to go out and take a walk in it, but still a beautiful view.

Re: March 2015 Observations & Discussions
4* this morning - looked like and feels like early January - roads snow covered with ice as well and just tire tracks on main roads. 16" snowpack with Mounds 3' high on the sides. If you said this would happen back in late Dec many would have laughed - some did when we were harping on pattern change since NOAA has officially declared a weak Nino - analogs show weak nino's are back loaded - 2nd half of the winter so to speak and guess what it happened again. to many positive variables in the atmosphere for this not to happen just needed some time. Since Jan 24 I have not seen green or brown for that fact - rivaling last winter to a degree or may surpass if we get one or two more storms.
Winter is not going away anytime soon with this snowpack and pattern, we will warm up and it will feel like 60* in the sun from Sun and most of next week but then O' Man winter looks to say to Mr. Heat Miser NOT SO FASSSSTTTTTTT!!
For me, I will personally take a quick reprieve from model watching for a few days and maybe even posting come Sunday unless it really gets me going. Next time frame is days away so............ciao for now(who I am kiddin' I will be back tomorrow morning with my record low temp!!)

Nice!!!!! Said to a friend last night that they will either be closed or definitely a delayed opening. He lives in Monmouth Co and he said "no we'll have school" (meaning regular day). I said delayed definitely maybe closing!! I should have bet him, they called a delay last night at 9PM!!

Mugs I've blown away my totals from last winter already. Here's something to chew on. Imagine if we combined the 1st half of last years winter with the 2nd half from this one. We had cold and near 60" area wide last January through early February, and then no snow. This year nothing until late January then 50"+ area wide (66" IMBY) till now. We'd have over 110" for a season!!!

F the March sun Skins.
Syos excellent point about the overlap combine the two years and we would have had 95-96 on steroids.
Mugs: yourself Frank and Sroc did a first rate job on this late season pattern change. This late January through March period has definitely made up for the December from hell and the first half of January from purgatory.
Although I can't forget the November pattern was great. A foot of snow for the month, a white Thanksgiving with 10 inches on the ground and trees bending over from the weight of the snow so it's really been a three pattern winter in the HV.
I need one more one footer up here and I can grudgingly accept spring although if I can hold it off to the middle of April I'll always gladly do it.
