YANKEES WON!!
Need another win tonight to even up the series. We play so much better at home.

Re: MLB -Who do you like?
Looks like my request for that classic Yankee- Dodger World series is more of a lock with both teams up 3 games. The playoffs expose any teams weakness and for Houston, it's their middle relief whom the Yanks are eating up alive. What I thought would be a weak spot for the Yanks, their starting pitching, has been sensational! Great pitching always neutralizes good hitting. Momentum is all going the Yanks way now, Joe Ghirardi has done a magnificent job with a club that was thought to be in a rebuilding year.Lot's of fun for baseball fans and especially for Frank, CP and the other Yankee Fans on the board.

Re: MLB -Who do you like?
Wow, incredible comeback by the Astros these last two games, thought the Yanks had them dead to rights. As usual, good pitching defeats good hitting.I'm a National League Fan all the way, go DODGERS.Should be a great match up in there , Kershaw vs Verlander, who Houston should bow down and genuflect to for single handedly beating the Yanks.

Re: MLB -Who do you like?
There are three trends I notice when it comes to World Series outcomes. Two you know about, the other is kind of coincidental, but noteworthy:
1) Home-field advantage. This year, first the times, home field in the WS was determined by which team had the better record. Since the the current DH/no-DH WS format was put into place in 1986, the team with home field is 23-7, although two of the last three champions did not have home field in the WS. The Dodgers (with 104 wins) have home field over the Astros (with 101 wins)
2) Longer layoff. In the last 8 WS, the team who clinched first lost the WS. This year, the Dodgers clinched two days before the Astros.
3) LCS network appearance. Since 2007, one LCS aired on TBS, the other aired on FOX/FS1. The team whose LCS games aired on FOX/FS1 is 9-1 in the World Series. The once exception is the 2011 Cardinals, who who were down to their final strike on two occasions in Game 6. The year, FOX/FS1 had the ALCS between the Yankees and Astros.
This is a very tough call. I started making these predictions in 2011 and last year was the first time I picked the wrong team. I will add that the Astros were 8-2 in NL parks, but 8 of those 10 games were against losing NL East teams. With hesitation, I am going to say the Astros in six games.
Tomorrow at game time, it is set to be in the upper 90s at Dodger Stadium!

I'm torn, but leaning toward the Astros. The way they came back and beat the Yankees, gotta love 'em. (Sorry Yankee fans!) But then again, it would be nice to see Grandy win with the Dodgers...

Well there may not be a AL/NL anymore anyway with the upcoming CBA! Expansion and divisions by regions is what I am hearing... I for one feel that would be pretty awesome. Red Sox Suck, NYY, NYM, PHI, Baltimore, Toronto, etc. all in the same division.docstox12 wrote:Dunnzoo wrote:I'm torn, but leaning toward the Astros. Wow, Ryan, that is some change for old timers like me.I would have to get my head wrapped around that one.In 1960, there was just the American League and National League. There were no wold cards or playoffs. The winner of each league played in the World Series, simple, easy, efficient.I go back to the stone age when there were three NY Teams in the City, one American League, the Yanks, and two National, Giants and Dodgers. You were loyal to your league back then.Guess this is the future but I want to see how the old Timers like me respond to that.

Yes the AL is usually the enemy, but the Astros used to be NL ( and I keep forgetting they're not) and colors similar to the Mets. Like I said, I would be willing to root for anyone who beats the Yankees. I would NEVER EVER root for the Yankees even if they were in the WS. No "they're from NY" for me! I have a tshirt that says, "I root for the Mets and anyone who plays the Yankees. Again, sorry Yankee fans!

LOL As it should be Janet. It must be hard to be NY's JV team for so long so I understand the sentiment.
One game from the WS.....Yanks current group of young talent is built to last!! And that was an AMAZING game last night.

LOL, Doc! As I mentioned to CP, the Yanks have the makings of a dynasty and will be a team to be reckoned with!
Great World Series for sure.I'm going to watch the game tomorrow night with my almost 97 year old Mom.She's bummed out because Curtis Granderson ( her favorite when he was a Met) is not on the Dodger roster.Houston looks all set with Verlander starting.Dodgers are going to have to do to him what the Stro's did to Kershaw. No east task, but I hope they do.Nothing beats a World Series Game 7!!!

Re: MLB -Who do you like?
As I have mentioned before, the current format of whether or not the DH is effective in a World Series game started in 1986 (i.e. Games 1, 2, 6, and 7 at Shea (NL Park) had no DH while Games 3, 4, and 5 at Fenway (AL Park) had the DH).
Since then, there have been nine WS in which the team playing Game 6 on the road had a 3-2 series. Of those nine teams, only three of them went on to win the World Series. The other six lost Game 6 and Game 7.
The teams that lost the 3-2 series lead on the road:
1986: [Beantown] Red Sox vs. New York Mets
1987: St. Louis Cardinals vs. Minnesota Twins
1991: Atlanta Braves vs. Minnesota Twins
2001: New York Yankees vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
2002: San Francisco Giants vs. Anaheim Angels
2011: Texas Rangers vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Two of the remaining three teams won Game 6 on the road:
1992: Toronto Blue Jays vs. Atlanta Braves
2003: Florida Marlins vs. New York Yankees
And one team lost Game 6 but won Game 7:
2014: San Francisco Giants vs Kansas City Royals
IF you're wondering about the 3-1 series blown by Cleveland last year, they played Games 6 and 7 at home.
I believe the Dodgers will put up quite the fight. Given how bad the bullpens have been, it wouldn't surprise me if the managers use the starters in relief.

Re: MLB -Who do you like?
Good point about the starters being used in relief Math!
The DH is an American League abomination that has taken out the effect the pitcher has as a batter. The pitcher can bunt or even surprise with a base hit.I never liked the DH and never will. It's an impure form of baseball.
Going to be backs against the wall for the Dodgers tonight. That stadium will be rocking!!!

Very interesting standings at this juncture on June 1 2019.Minnesota up by 10 GAMES in the AL central?? Yankees are doing great without the big sluggers. There's a good manager, pitching coach and hitting coach and good team chemistry.Glad for Frank, CP and the other Yankee Fans on the board!Houston still a powerhouse and the team to beat for the AL Crown later this year.LA Dodgers are the best in the NL.Would love to see a classic Yankee-Dodger World Series this year.Goes back to the 1955 and 1956 Subway Series .

Congratulations to the Nationals and Astros for making the World Series.Who figured a Harper-less Nat team to even make the playoffs?Jose Altuve is an incredible player and his walk off against a top shelf reliever,Chapman will be remembered.Got to tip the hat to DJ Mahieu for that game tying 2 run homer in the top of the ninth, but that Yankee starting pitcher weakness was revealed as playoff baseball always does.
Rooting for the Nats as an NL Fan.
