Ads on site
Hey Frank, was wondering if we are supposed to be getting ads where your scroll normally is. I am getting ads by ad choice, and when I click on the X to get rid of it, it says Ad closed by Google but then another one pops up.Just a fyi is all as I thought this site was ad free.

To be honest, they are getting really annoying.

GreyBeard. If I am logged out, which from time to time happens to me, I get the same thing. As long as I am logged in I don't see ads. Make sure you are logged in.

I am Scott, that was the first thing I tried. Even logged off then signed back in and it makes no difference. Ads still appear. This just started happening recently. I know this was an issue in the past and Frank seemed to have it sorted out, but it appears it has come back. Others have noticed it too. Look at recent comments in the website issues thread. Snowday111 also I see so I am not the only one. Once clicking out of the ad, it says ad was removed by google, I clicked on that and some sort of opt out page came up with a long list of websites. I said to opt out but didn't change anything. Tried deleting cookies, also no joy.

Re: Ads on site
Weird. I assure you Frank has not changed anything to allow ads, and currently I do not see them. I use Internet Explorer as my search engine on my PC and Safari on my phone and don't see them. What browser are you using snowday and grey beard?

Re: Ads on site
Sounds like a plan Scott, thanks. Just out of curiosity, I signed in with the edge browser, now I get a big square box where the ad would be with the rotating circle in the middle of it, you know like when something is taking a while to load. It has an arrow on the top right corner and it brought me here.

Ad finally loaded and came up in edge also. It's the ad choices one.

I had ads all day today too. The latest one was for Planned parenthood.

Re: Ads on site
There baaaack. Every time I open a new page I get an ad on the bottom of the page from the left margin 3/4 across the page and about 4 inches wide. To X out of ad have to go to lower left margin at top of the ad. Makes for an unpleasant browsing experience.

Re: Ads on site
Hi everyone -
I will tell you all what I told the other admins and staff:
If I wish to disable ads for Members only, it would cost $7/month or $60/year
If I wish to disable ads for Members AND Guests (people who never log in just lurkers), it would cost $8/month or $70/year
I typically pay for it in the winter months. If you guys want to split some of the cost with me we can look into doing a full year. If not all good - ads will go away by Thanksgiving / December 1st

Is anyone still seeing ads? I think if you are signed in you do not see them.

Re: Ads on site
Hi everyone
Unfortunately the price to remove ads for members and guests went up again. It is about $100. However, the price to remove ads for just members is $50, so that was taken care of.
If you’re a member who does not want to deal with ads, please make sure you’re signed into the forum. If you’re someone who just casually reads without having a log in, you’ll need to create an account and stay signed in. Unless the ads don’t bother you!!!!
