*Roidzilla 2017* - Final Call Snow Map / Observations

It's hard to tell who's getting what on the radar. I mean the storm is covering a lot of area but the totals are so different. I woke up this morning to snow falling like rain. Literally in a short amount of time 6-8 inches piled up. Since then it's just sleet/ice. If this storm does end around 2pm or 4 and doesn't switch back over soon then a lot of the Bergen County area was waaaaay overdone on the maps.

+NAO, March, coastal hugger, sloppy H5 phasing. I should have seen the writing on the wall with this one. Kinda disappointed. I fell into a trap with some of these models showing such cold solutions, but that's why they preach Meteorology not Modelology. Oh well, live and learn.

4" snow. Shoveled now 2" sleet. Mostly rain now. Great storm

Heavy windswept sleet..goggles required.
Hard to tell but about 8" of snow/sleet. Mostly sleet.  Seem just as inpactful as foot+ of snow. This stuff is nearly unmovable. Trying to drive through it is like driving in quicksand.
Someone said it looks like a cream of wheat storm lol...thats spot on.

21 degrees here . A little colder but temps remarkably stable
. Wind sensor is snow bound . Up to 19. Fat flakes

So well said! Hey though, we can at least appreciate the beauty of this storm!

Mixing with sleet again. I give up.

Still all snow here albeit lighter now. Hopefully it picks up again soon. Just about 15" otg.

Frank, no matter what you are the best forecaster I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. You always do a SUPER JOB on this board, like so many of dedicated people that give up their personal time to give us the best forecast possible with the tools they have to work with. Still a Winter Storm Warning here in Westchester but MAN, what a rough pill to swallow just now doing a Facebook Live having to explain to my friends what the heck happened in NYC. It's honestly embarrassing to have this many busts over the past couple years.

Sleet has stopped mixing in. Now it's back to all snow that's light to moderate. 21* wind still out of the NW at 10-25mph.

I second that!! Its very difficult nailing these winter storms down in this area Frank.Like I have said ad nauseum, I have seen so many things happen at the last minute with these things that I only feel confident when I look at the radar the day of the storm and see 6 to 8 hours of 2+ inch an hour rates.Everything else is a crap shoot.Models are for guidance purposes only.Feel bad for the shore and Island folks but CP and I were dying last January while you guys got close to 30 inches with the January 2016 blizzard and we got barely 10 inches.Its how these storms go up in the tri state area.

Dont worry about it man! Us weather folk have selective dementia, we will quickly lick our wound, forget the loss and go on. As for our friends and family, they will be right back asking us about the next storm when it occurs!
But in truth lessons learned from this storm. I think many of us got caught off guard by the weather service being so aggressive so early.
Did you see the good read from Joe Bastardi about blizzard? He's right, I grew up knowing a blizzard had temps in the teens. It is mis-used now-a days..

Doc you and CP were dying last January that's funny me and hyde saw the sun with just light snow but this helps that be a memory!!

Holy Sleet! They dropped the blizzard warnings like a hot potato here on long island. Sleet coming in sideways and really banging against the house when the wind gusts. One of my trash cans is mia. For those of you getting snow,enjoy.

Temp jumped up to 23.9.Funny when the subsidence hit, the winds died down suddenly.Now light to moderate snow, 89%, 29.21 F.This storm has many faces.

Yeah when you think about it it's hard to be upset at a storm that busts low like this when I was able to experience the bust last winter that resulted in the biggest snowstorm in NYC history. Definitely didn't expect that one either. That's what makes this stuff so interesting to follow.

You are so right crippo that's why i try not to complain to much because everybody has this crap happen to them but you guys down near the coast have done better the last few years then up hudson valley peeps.
