So it seems that to be on the positive side, the winter of 18-19 shall be dubbed, "The season of the single massive snow squall".

Possibly one of the worst D, J, F winters I can remember. I'm declaring winter dead. Maybe March has surprises in store for us, but in terms of Meteorological Winter, its a done deal.

I agree on the D,J,F comment.Another slop storm to rain next week according to Goldberg. The long range pattern that set up after the November 15th snowstorm, cold/dry and mild/rainy with cutters just did not budge for 3 months.Right now I grade this winter a "D" as well as the long range forecasts made by people here and professional Mets back in November. No offense, but if you put yourself out there, you gotta produce.Only hope for any snow of 12 inches or more is a pattern change in March.

Move this to sports banter folks.... I for one am thankful there is nothing major in the foreseeable future, I am flying out on the 22nd, returning on the 27th, and hubby has already been concerned about flight delays. I'll wait til March! Lol

If this is how you feel, then why put up a banner line declaring "several opportunities for minor to moderate snow events in the upcoming 10 day period"?

Really a quite interesting read from the NYTimes:
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/02/13/climate/switzerland-glaciers-climate-change.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage
about how Switzerland is planning for the loss of ice and thus water to power electric plants. Nice visuals. Of course, besides electric (planning), lots of folks will lose drinking water in the Alps and in Switzerland.

All they need to do is build a few reservoirs and coal burning electric plants and problem solved.

The other admin of this forum, Mr. Scott aka sroc, did that. I'll fire him for it and remove the banner now. Sorry for the inconvenience it may have caused. Please rate us 5 stars on Yelp!

While Frank is our leader even he too can be victim of the horrific illness knows as snowless-itis. Many do not make it. Its symptoms include irrational thoughts, unreasonable punishments, and over indulgence in peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. While the mechanism of actions for the first two symptoms has been very well documented and is well understood the mechanisms behind why the overindulgence of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches is not. It is postulated that its linked to the "paison" effect. The theory is that individuals of Italian american decent who contract snowless-itis have a gene on the Y chromosome that triggers the hunger centers of the brain to want those particular flavors. So if you run across Frank and he has a ring of jelly around his mouth and he smells of peanut butter, please steer clear if you are of Italian American decent for snowless-itis is highly contagious through direct contact. Eventually it leads one to go mad and leads to outbursts of whining and complaining that crescendos into multiple daily tirades on social media sites followed by self banishment of said sites. While we may have lost one good paison, my hope is that Frank seeks the help he so desperately needs so that we dont lose another one. We need him in here. The future of the site may depend.
And I assure you I have not been fired yet for the scroll was posted before the future threats have ...shit the bed. That said next wed is still on the table for something. Well see.

Since you brought it up, I do have to say that I have often wondered why so many people on this board are of Italian descent. I am 50% Sicilian. Is there something about meteorology that interests Italians? I know not everyone here is Italian, but it has always seemed to me like a lot of you are.
It has not felt like winter is over here. I spent over an hour yesterday chopping ice on my driveway and front walk. It is warm today, but my neighborhood is still white.

We all know this has been a miserable winter and even though it's going to snow tomorrow night another coating to an inch no big deal. It's hard to believe 16 years ago we had a major blizzard the President's Day blizzard of 2003 I remember ending up with almost 2 feet of snow with snow drifts higher then that and I remember how Fast & Furious the snow was coming on down I hope this winter which I doubt it we will at least have something like that even if we get one for the snow I will be very happy

Looks like I'm the last hold out here. Not throwing in the towel until March 15th if nothing is showing then for the following week.Just too long a stretch, May 1 to Oct 1 that snow chances fade to almost nothing. It has been one of the most frustrating ones for sure
