At 5:15 AM, no snow yet.NWS said it would start at 3.Radar shows snow should get here by 7 AM.Looks more to the south of me at this point but maybe it will shift northwards.NWS still staying with 2 to 4 by me, snow until 4 PM.Sure is cold out, ratios should be good.

Re: Observation Thread 12/17 Clipper Storm
Started snowing in Franklin Square at 5:45 while I was waiting for the bus. Arrived in Times Square around 7, definitely sticking even here where the sidewalks are warmer and already salted. Saw a salt truck heading down 42nd Street. Have to say the snow looks pretty with all the NYC Christmas decorations. Someone please remind me I said that when I'm back home shoveling tonight...

Looking at the radar this seems to have high bust potential at least in the HV. No way we make the 3 to 5 NWS is calling for, at this rate we'd be lucky to get an inch and a half.
But that's what Clippers do, you can never count on them.

Re: Observation Thread 12/17 Clipper Storm
Pretty lackluster. But I would give it until 11am, when models had the storm blowing up off the coast.

Through my weather watching life I would estimate 40% of all clippers disappoint, 40% give you what you expect and 20% over perform. When they're in the 20% it's always great, very doubtful this is one of those, Looks like an underperformer.
Looks like Frank was correct not to jump on some of the higher totals last night.

Re: Observation Thread 12/17 Clipper Storm
I've been waiting to see on the radar some better filling in but so far, not.If it doesn't, this is over in an hour and I'll be lucky to get the 2 inches.
Light snow.Looks like about an inch so far here.

Re: Observation Thread 12/17 Clipper Storm
There is a lot of instability in the 800mb to 700mb levels of the atmosphere. I wouldn't dismiss anything yet until the afternoon. Precip should blossom by 11am-12pm

That batch precip covering all of NJ south of Staten Island doesn't look too bad.
