-5.6 for the low 3rd coldest morning of the year but still can't beat -6.0, -4.0 right now. You win this round Snow man, what was Docs final low?
Looks like CPK made it to 2, closer than I expected but NO still pulled it out.
Impressive for this late in February. CPK smashed the daily record by 5 degrees, I can't remember the last time they set a daily record low in Winter.
Good call Frank.

From Doc - posted in Feb Obs thread
-3.3 degrees, 43%, 29.86 R
Great info on that NYC snowpack CP.Reinforces the fact that this has been a February with cold that has not been seen in a while.
You and Math are the best when it comes to interesting statistical data, I love reading all of it!

Re: Polar Blast 2.0 Thursday-Friday, Some Snow Too
Got down to 1 degree here last night. Central Park got down to 2. Nice to be on the winning team. By the way I made a post in the storm thread with a forecast last night at 10:45 p.m. which it seems like will now be spot on according to the mets on here. If you mention the word rain in your forecast with this kind of cold air and snowpack all the way down to North Carolina you should be banned for a week.

Yes, CPK did smash through that low of 7 prior. Let's see what happens tonight!

Actually, CPK set a record low on January 7th of last year when it went down to 4, breaking the old record of 6 from 1896.

Re: Polar Blast 2.0 Thursday-Friday, Some Snow Too
The February average temperature going into today in central Park is 24.4°. If they ended the month with that it would put them right on the verge of being one of the five coldest February's in history. For this day and age that's very impressive.
This year is never catching the 19.9° average of February 1934 but I believe a repeat of that will portend the coming Ice Age.

-5.6 right now tying yesterday mornings low.
If the clouds stay away till 7am this is the night for the areas outside the heat island to have their seasonal lows by morning, I'm 0.4 degrees from mine. RB posted a -11 earlier.
The heat Island thrives tonight. At 14 right now in CPK it's not going much lower, last night was their shot. With the relatively calm winds these are the nights where the city will sit at this temperature for most of the night, maybe drop a degree or two while the surrounding suburbs plummet like a rock.

Re: Polar Blast 2.0 Thursday-Friday, Some Snow Too
-6.2 the new low for the season, as the heat Island sticks at 14.
Keep the clouds away till after sunrise and negative double digits should be here by the morning.
For Orange County Today
SDQ (Snow Depression Quotient) is 3 or less inches.
SSQ (Snow Satisfaction Quotient) is 5 inches.
SEQ (Snow Elation Quotient) is 8 inches

I like your chart on he bottom there,CP.30 or 40 years ago I would not even pay attention to a snowstorm unless it was 12 inches plus and only got really excited at the 18 inch plus.
-7.5 was my low.Incredible low temps reported this morning from our observers here! Clouds "lowering and thickening' ( I love that term!).Radar nice and juicy and headed this way.NWS only has an advisory downgraded from watch.Still 4 to 6, though, not bad.

Re: Polar Blast 2.0 Thursday-Friday, Some Snow Too
Bottomed out at -8.0 and then the clouds rolled in and temperatures started rising after 4am. It was still the coldest reading of the season, nice call on ths cold outbreak Frank.
Negative double digits was a lock if the clouds stayed away till after sunrise.
When I went to bed for the second time at 2 am, there were double digit negatives all over NWNJ, LHV and a couple even on LI. What could have been.
Frank if nominated I choose not to run. Even though I campaigned for NO my heart was with YES.
Orange County Airport average temperatures for February so far are average high 27 and average low 4.
9 sub zero lows in February and 8 of the last 9 days. A very impressive and noteworthy stretch.

My temp gauge was spun around by an animal I think, so my daytime temps are not accurate. The solar panels that drive the fan are facing north :-( unfortunately it is on the roof of my garage, maybe tomorrow I will be able to get to it. Nighttime temp readings are accurate though...
