Re: August 2016 Observations & Discussion
Doc nothing like a 48 degree morning in August to wake me up from my summer hibernation.
Brutal summer so far. Not that many days over 90 but enough 86-88 high humidity days to make it excessive and oppressive I'm ready for it to end.
Side note I'm happy with everything the Yankees have done this summer. It's not about this season or next but 2018 is our year. BTW bring Refsnyder back up he's 17-35 since is demotion and he was hitting 264 in majors when he was demoted. Sit Texiara, Headly the rest of year no point in playing either. I'd also put Ellsbury on that list and Hicks too.
Wrong thread I know I haven't forgotten the rules.
If this winter is anything like last year I may never be heard from again.
Also just read about the January blizzard getting updated to record 27.5 inches. Thanks for the update Mike just saw your message from April 28. Didn't many of us say as much at the time. No idea why it took three months to correct but considering what we've corrected over the years not surprising either. It's funny how other forums I read have no clue that we are the force behind these corrections. Please all join me as we throw out our shoulders pattiing ourselves on the back. Way to go NJS.

Hey don't know how to copy and paste on my tablet....I was a little jealous when I heard the weather back home gave everyone a taste of fall...when Disney real feel today was 105*(we are having fun and melting at same time will never travel to this state again in summer)...until I heard that there was like a million dead fish in the creek behind our house...you can see it on channel 7....

I just read that. Keansburg, NJ.
They are investigating.
Have a great time in Disney! By the way, to copy and paste try holding your finger for 5 seconds on the sentence or paragraph you want to copy, then you should get a pop up that gives you the option to select what you want to copy. To paste it, hold your finger down for 5 seconds again in a blank area and hit paste.

Hey CP, glad you're surviving summer. I agree with your assessment of the Yankees. They'll be fun to watch next season (not many veterans left) but they probably won't compete until 2018.

Re: August 2016 Observations & Discussion
So it looks like meteorological summer will finish about + 2 above normal for most areas. A slow start with regards to heat and a hot end 2 summer. Pretty much the consensus forecast from most. Overall a pretty typical summer which will probably be remembered for the heat wave in early August but not for excessive Heat, which in the past followed strong nino's. I think one thing we can take away from winter through summer 2016 is that the enso is not behaving in its usual fashion. This should make this  winter's forecast a bit more challenging  in regards to the incoming La nina. sswe and the nao will play huge factors and are hard to forecast in advance. good luck Frank and others with your winter forecast. can't wait to see it.

Much better thunderstorm activity than other years (in part due to tropical heat and humidity invading at times) however strangely despite the radar look, nothing especially severe in terms of winds or hail. Remember the storms starting in February and March, good lightning and thunder year but not windy severe ones. Tropical season began slow in the Atl. too but now looks to get active. As you said things are mostly going to plan with regards to the summer predictions. I for one am getting tired of the humidity and heat! But at the same time like the storms that fire up due to it.

Re: August 2016 Observations & Discussion
I'll remember it most for one of the more excessive and extended stretches of high humidity you can get around here. Some incredible dew points with staying power, pushing the limits of what I thought possible here. Some 110s heat indexes in spots at times, which doesn't come around too often.
Also some amazing lightening shows..but perspective on that will vary greatly with the hit or miss nature of t storms.
Swimming in 80 degree water at this latitude was a first for me.

Re: August 2016 Observations & Discussion
No rain is expected this week. There's a chance some rain from 99L gets to us next weekend, but I'm doubting that at the moment. We could go the next 7-10 days without measurable rain

Re: August 2016 Observations & Discussion
Yea Skins - big drop off. I think we got lucky with thunderstorm development last month and earlier in August which helped raise our rain totals. Without those t-storms, it would have been a very dry summer overall.

Temps mainly in the mid 80's until we get to Thursday. It looks like a trough will move into the area Thursday-Saturday which should keep temps in the upper 70's to low 80's with low humidity too! Should feel great!!

After the first few days of September we'll get back into a warm pattern. Any cool weather we get won't last long.
