31 heavy snow.
Just now Bill Evans graphic had us changing to rain even up here by noon. Hoping he is still lost as all Mets other than our guys have been all week.

Re: March 2nd Nor'easter Update
Well, if you look at the radar , it shows dark green over Essex county, however , it is snowing heavy, wierd things due happen when a cut off low passes over head. I am at an elevation of 400 ft though, that could be the reason. NWS has no accumulation forecast today but it is sticking to the parking lot roads now, slushy but sticking.

Re: March 2nd Nor'easter Update
I am just hoping we get a little wind here. I figured here at the coast it would be bad.

Hold that line Jim, don't want that rain/snow line crossing the Hudson.

track17 wrote:this is not a complaining question but a actual question. Did this storm move north and east because it is really a non event in nj on the coast. Hardly any rain or wind even. Is that expected to change or is the storm not really happening here now
Track not sure your exact location. But the precip is a little ragged/patchy along the south jersey coast (south of Toms River). Seems heavy on the coast north of there. I would expect as the low wraps up tighter the precip now over Maryland/Delmarva will consolidate east and fill in along the coast and over South Jersey. We’re still in the later stage of energy transfer from the low out west to the now dominant coastal.

He sees that warm nose moving all the way west to us CP.Doc had a graphic that shows the battle to come.Warm easterlies VS cold north/northeasterlies.So far so good, moderate/heavy wind blown snow.

Oh wow all snow in yonkers? My brief sleet mix is back to a very heavy rain now, despite the increased intensity.
Those Yonkers hills may help you.
Just changed to mainly snow. 36* Big pancake size flakes.
Yeah..I think that's one reason NWS never jump on the accumulating snow idea around the city or east of the Hudson. A lot will be white rain. Its changing a little early so maybe that gives more time to cool the surface ?

Looking at the radar loop, it looks like the 500/700 mb lows cut off farther north than anticipated, can anyone verify this?

Re: March 2nd Nor'easter Update
Seems NWS is concerned about a slight westward trend in track and associated warm air aloft...
Low is progged to be roughly 50 to 100 miles w of the benchmark
at 18z. The 00Z RGEM/GFS/ECMWF, 3Z SREF and 6Z NAM make up this
grouping. The further wwd trend has increased the wind threat,
but has not made the snow/rain fcst any less complicated.
While the cooling airmass associated with the upr low evidenced
by decreasing wet bulb zero heights remains a crucial component,
the wwd trend brings warmer air aloft in as well. Because of
these two factors, snowfall totals have been lowered from
roughly the Hudson River ewd, and increased elsewhere. Over a
foot of snow is now expected for some of the higher elevations
in Orange county.

Re: March 2nd Nor'easter Update
Ended up having to go to work in West Caldwell but thinking I'm only going to be here a few hours. Going back home to Hopatcong should be interesting....
When I left Hopatcong it was snowing heavily and sticking to all surfaces including roads. Changeover occurred at about 7:15. Was 31 degrees when I departed at 7:45 this morning
