Re: Pain in the Butt March 7th Godzilla: Observations
Still heavy snow. Closing in on 7" here. A couple notes, those power lines are beginning to sag quite a bit. And I've made three trips to knock snow off the spruce trees and arborvitae lining my backyard because they are young and the weight was bending the branches. So those trees you see, would be a big cone of white had I not done that three times already.

Until 6:30pm EST, Wed Mar 7
This just hit my phone alert.
Action Recommended: Avoid the subject event as per the instructions
Issued by: New York City - NY, US, National Weather Service,
...BANDS OF HEAVY SNOW WILL AFFECT NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY...THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY...NEW YORK CITY...AND MUCH OF SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT GOING INTO THE EVENING COMMUTE... AT 430 PM, RADAR SHOWED BANDS OF HEAVY SNOW OVER INTERIOR NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY, THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY, AND SOUTHWESTERN CONNECTICUT. THESE BANDS WILL MOVE SLOWLY EAST INTO THE NEW YORK CITY METROPOLITAN AREA AND INTO MUCH OF THE REST OF SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT BETWEEN NOW AND 630 PM. SNOWFALL RATES OF UP TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR AND NORTH TO NORTHEAST WINDS GUSTING UP TO 30 MPH EXPECTED. LIGHTNING AND THUNDER ARE ALSO POSSIBLE, ESPECIALLY OVER SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT. NONESSENTIAL TRAVEL IS DISCOURAGED. TRAVEL WILL BE VERY DIFFICULT TO IMPOSSIBLE DUE TO SIGNIFICANT REDUCTIONS IN VISIBILITY AND BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. BE PREPARED FOR ADDITIONAL POWER OUTAGES DUE TO HEAVY SNOW WEIGHING DOWN TREES OR LIMBS.

The position of these lows is PERFECTION for N&W of NYC and NJ. For NYC and LI it is a nightmare.

I would think as the low starts to pull NE it would change the axis of the precip shield to avoid a dry slot east of NYC

I bet the dry slot into NYC right now is subsidence in between your death band and the one over LI

That's what was sitting over me for about 4 hours. May have slid just east (probably why it's over you) because my snow has let up a bit -- just a bit. I'd say I'm in moderate-to-almost heavy snow right now.

Re: Pain in the Butt March 7th Godzilla: Observations
Maybe just my thoughts...but I think the dry slot stays south of the island look at this radar...looks like it is going to stay just south. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Pain in the Butt March 7th Godzilla: Observations
Scott - it is. Looks like the subsidence is creeping into eastern NJ too. The NJ death band is shrinking. Hmmm maybe a new one takes over. Maybe it's over LI...

Snowing so hard. Huge part of tree just came down on neighbor’s car just missed ours. Can hear trees cracking and coming down all over when outside.

You can see the dry slot over coastal NENJ filling back in as the radar pivots. If anything WLI and CLI might have a brief lull, but it will fill back in as it pulls away

Re: Pain in the Butt March 7th Godzilla: Observations
You can see based on my high-def GRlvl radar that the precip is beginning to orient it self from NE to SW and that death band over LI is starting to rotate and pivot, ending its South to North Movement. Also a band over NNJ is parked. NYC and extreme WLI in the middle as of now, but it will fill back in IMO.

Re: Pain in the Butt March 7th Godzilla: Observations
Just reached 15 inches, and pouring snow still. 29.8 degrees
I think eastern Orange County is jackpotting in the HV for this one.

1.5" snow on grass here. Slushy puddles on pavement.
Heavy snow now again, maybe will stick some approahing sunset.
