Sources: Kobe Bryant was on his way to a travel basketball game with his daughter Gianna when the helicopter crashed. Those aboard the helicopter also included another player and parent.

The same reaction I felt of hearing of Kobe Bryant and now his daughter dead of a helicopter crash,is the same exact reaction to when I go found out Prince had died,it's like a"punch"to the gut....gonna be a long night...rip Kobe,Gianna and the family

Just tragic that Kobe and his daughter both perish in a random accident. Like when Thurmon Munson, for others JFK, and some Princess Diana. Shocking.
I pray for his wife and his 3 other daughters. I dont know how a parent goes on with life in such horrible happenings.

I can’t even believe this news. I’m in shock I think. My son and I were just watching ESPN this morning listening to the highlights of Lebron giving a post game interview from last night talking about how much Kobe meant to him as a mentor early in his career and what it meant to pass him on the all time scoring list. And here we stand. Devastating.

Unbelievable, sad, tragic, and the news of his 13 year old daughter just made it so much worse.

Puts a lousy winter into perspective, who cares, this is real life unfortunately at its worst.

Yes its terrible, I couldnt believe it at first, said gotta be a hoax. But sadly it is not such a young girl, and heard was good enough to head to WNBA one day. What was that pilot doing?! We will never know sadly. And of course rip kobe but losing a daughter, to me that hits home even more, I cannot imagine. scott like you said how does a family go on living, will be a life long struggle everyday and praying they seek help cause its times like this people resort to usually unthought of things.

My wife is still struggling with loss of her mother, you never get over it (remember I am a licensed social worker so I deal in therapy) it can take years even near a lifetime depending how old you are to be able to move on. She is very strong and manages to make it trough everyday, I pray his wife and girls can do the same. Support support support. Do not let yourself alone to sit and think, trust me its the worst thing to do. However hard it may be to seek support.

I was in Oneonta yesterday. It was snowing while I was driving. My son told me as we drove. My first thought was I hoped he was wrong, but it did not turn out that way.

The loss of Kobe is tragic. I could not believe it when it happened. Curious to hear details on why the chopper went down. A lot of celebrities ride these things almost daily. It is how they get around...

Frank there were 9 people on a helicopter my dad said that's beyond over capacity. He tries small planes but is familiar with helicopters too. Could be the main factor.

Oh our bad, didn't know type. I know someone who works for sikorsky in CT. I am sure they will be under investigation for any malfunctions or recalls. Does everything in 202 have to suck so bad? This event which is much worse than weather talk but that too, now we probably arent even going to see a storm. Blah, I hope this year turns a leaf. I also had to make a child neglect case call today for one of my students.

Foggy hazy conditions and they just crashed into the hill. So sad.
Like the jet plane crash in 1980 that did the same due to foggy conditions.
On a more tragic note, the other passengers a coach, his wife and daughter all perish leaving behing 2 teenage kids now orphaned.
This is worse hand down in my book.

And I concur. This has not been a winter imo. Maybe you guts up north who must have had a solid 18 at least so far this year can say so but when I can't even get halfway to double digits I mean Jesus . hands down worst winter I can ever remember. Not even very cold been in 40s most of the winter so far mixed with 30s and maybe a handful of 20s for a low. Not trying to be a pisser but it's a fact so far. Prove me wrong in February. March doesn't count as winter in my eyes though we have had to deal with snow the whole month past few years. I very much dislike this shift in seasons.
