On a quick note, we lost my father in law April 9th. They say "natural causes" because he was 96, but they are pretty sure he had. I'm not convinced, he was gone so fast. Anyway, since the funeral director was a friend of the family, we were able to go to the head of the line for a "funeral" which was us getting to visit with him for a half hour. We couldn't go to the cemetery, we could go another day during "visiting hours"... he was a veteran of WWII(Germany) and he couldn't get the honors he deserved. So very terrible for the family.
I am also an EMT. It hasn't been easy, but I have been lucky and haven't had too much exposure. I can't say the same for my colleagues. But we were well trained and so far no one has gotten sick. If everyone follows the friggin' rules and does what they should, they will be ok. The only exception are those that have underlying conditions.
So be safe all, end of my story on this mess......
NOW FOR THE WHITE RAIN THAT'S COMING OUR WAY TONIGHT! :-) I'm hoping to stay up to see what we get, got nowhere to go in the morning.

I've been reading this post, but had not had time to input. I'm trying to take a step back. Sadly, we are not on a good path. Our country is divided. I've seen falsified posts by both the right and left. I am very fearful of the state of the economy. I can not remember a time when unemployment was so high, espcially so quickly. Unemployment is at 14.7%, the worst since the Great Depression. People are hurting and will suffer financially and emotionally. They could lose everything. Literally. The restaurant industry is devastated and may never return. People are going hungry as food is wasted. It's a horrible toll and I am frightened. I also see the effects of the disease. A friend, aged 36 is dead because of the disease. My neighbors sister's fiancé passed for the same reason. A friend's dad of my eleven year old daughter is on a ventilator. A child died in NJ for the first time. Nurse friends of mine see the death every day. This is real. One got sick and was incapacitated (literally could not move or hold down food) and is back to service at the hospital. All points on this discussion are valid and respect human life. My question is what are solutions. Testing? Vaccines? Herd immunity? At what costs? Tracking and isolating who is sick? There will be perceived civil rights violations. Society has laws to protect us. Speed limits, food safety, criminal and civil. What is our tolerance? For how long? Can we give up rights for a period of time for the better of society? Can we trust those in power to relinquish those restrictions when the threat is over? In my mind, things will be different for a long time. Maybe never the same again. Sacrifices need to be made. As a nation, we can not afford to be split but must work together to find solutions. Yes, I am very afraid for my children.

Best post I seen yet! The best part, its all questions just as you stated. And thats where I stand too though I do have an opinion the facts are we do not know and any reopening is a risk, I think thats why they want to open very slowly because if they reopen a tiny bit and any numbers go up the door will be slammed shut and battened down even harder. We do have to band together, just like the governors of NY, NJ, CT,PA,MA and RI. If one says move they will move if one says stop they will all stop. Or thats presumably what I understood they said the "alliance" was for. We can't open atlantic city for example and not the casinos in NY CT RI and MA as everyone from al lthose states will flock to AC. That would be very bad. Same if Poconos Casinos and other resorts opened we would have all the other states migrate there. Shoot if someone told me there was a barber open in western PA I would drive the 8 hrs lol.Grselig wrote:I've been reading this post, but had not had time to input. I'm trying to take a step back. As for resturant industry being ruined I dunno, maybe some but I know a few places here that are reeaping from this pandemic. Almost every single asian cuisine is closed. Well near me Golden Fountain is open and they have a hour and a half wait for delivery because they are getting so many orders. It's a chinese food famine around here. I have not seen any shortage or cost of meat go up yet, someone said they were surprised I was able to get a hamburger at wendys the other day. I think the supply is okay for now or it just hasn't effected here yet. I have not seen any red headlines about a lack of meat and poultry. I did hear that the governor said they are throwing away milk upstate so they are working to shift it down here so they can get paid. But why is milk not desiored upstate? The virus is low to non existant way upstate. Is it because people had the virus in these plants? Well at the same attribute then everyone should be affraid to order Amazon but they have never done better. They have had a ton of cases in NY and deaths so I do not get it.

these farmers ship milk to schools and restaurants..the demand is not there and the cost to give it away is high.. it's cheaper to dispose. ...sad..but that's why people are stepping up to get farm goods to food banks. Milk is a little different...jmanley32 wrote:Best post I seen yet! The best part, its all questions just as you stated. Good point about the restaurants. I guess I was thinking of the more upscale, which I don't see much activity in my area (at least from what I see), however, local mom and pop restaurants are doing business. Pizza, Mediterranean are what comes to my mind. Also, they are doing a tremendous amount of work to support essential workers. I know of a startup barbecue place that had to (hopefully temporary) close up. Another more established barbecue joint owned by veterans is closed too. Only two Asian places are open. Margins for most of these places are thin, as so for most small business, this is a problem.
Also agree with your point about interstate travel. It's going to happen when places open.
As for me personally, I am homeschooling 2 special needs kids and a 5th grade daughter. I hate to say this, but I am liking math, when once I hated it. So much respect for teachers. Even with their help, it's difficult to do it right. I am saddened that 5th grade graduation and al the fun activities are not going to happen. They were talking about it for a year! My heart goes out to high school seniors.
As somebody mentioned in another post, we have not heard from Scott. Hope he is OK

I said about scott.
You do know I am a teacher right? And I teach Early Intervention for kids with developmental delays and autism spectrum disorder. So I technically am essential too and could be at the school but they opted for tele-therapy as this particular type of ABA therapy is called, its not easy over zoom, we basically coach the parents and do what we can. If you do not know about the teaching method its very interesting check it out. We are a very small business/school and are losing hundreds of bills a day as a lot of parents opted out, didn't respond to the emails for video sessions and they also cannot bill for group sessions so thats 100 bills cancelled a day alone. And we have parents that are enrolled cancelling sessions. So they just cut our break for 2 week period end of June/1st week july. I understand they are hurting but we need our breaks. Especially now for mental well being etc. Our director told us the school calender is out the window which leads me to believe as long as we are working from home we will not be getting any of our breaks. Which would also mean Augusts week off. We always work the summer for EI, but we get these upcoming 2 weeks off and one in august. We get 10 days a year personal time, Christmas break, Feb break, April break and a few holidays otherwise. I know I am thankful to have a job and now its NOT the time to complain but they should be taking our well being into consideration, there are many options to allow for break and still get our sessions in, how about staggering staff and others cover those sessions so they lose no money. It just seems they only care about their money and do not want to devise a plan that covers both areas. Yeah upscale places are even doing takeout here, and all the chains are except TGIF (I have no idea why ours closed). But ya our best pizza place is open but he is hurting and doesn't know how long he can go. He always gives me discounts as I go there often and he gave me a cheaper price a few weeks ago and I told him no its fine I will pay full price. Don't argue with a true Italian, lol, even if its not to their benefit. Angelo is a great guy, anyone in the area I highly suggest Sophia's Pizza & pasta (tons of other stuff too though) in the Acme Plaza off Deegan, McLean Ave Exit in Yonkers. really good and huge portions.

Jman,
You will not hear about the food shortages because MSM is not there yet nor does anyone want to believe it until its bad. The bubble of this greater metropolis is no indication of whats happening in the rest of the country. You have to dig a bit to find this information. I hate to say but I have heard so many of my freinds say the same thing - what I can still buy meat and poultry. No big deal. The rest of the country has been rationed, or there is sparsely any meats in the store. As I said to my friends by Mid May this will hit and some 8n the industry are saying it will last 1.5 years. Then why is super meat fast food chains pulling burgers off their menus which is their revenue staple? He was informed of this impending issue 2-3 weeks ago by his staff. No one outside of NYC and Buffalo vote for him. Velief is he caters to those areas and its pretty much true. Cuomo is too late to the game as most politicians are in this one.
@Greslig great questions in your post. The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself- FDR. So true and this is what has happened to us.
People are fearful and feel paralyzed in this region. Why should upstate NY be lockdown when they have had and presently have few to zero cases? That to me is tyranny.
The Independent Restaurant Association of America said two weeks ago that 50% of the restaurants will close their doors for good if not opened to even 1/2 capacity in 2-3 weeks time. That horse is leaving town as we speak. Tey have rents, mortgages, taxes, utilities, contracts for food, and alcohol, and even some maintenance that needs to done and be paid. Even if they get an extension they still have to pay these down the road. And if they open at 25% is it worth it? Three owners I know personally said if we don't open to 50% in 2 weeks we're done. Gov't $ only gets you so far and....they have to pay it back its a loan, not a free loaf of bread!!! It's pretty tough.
They are going to push mandatory vaccines, who stand to make billions off of this ...Big Pharma, Gates (POS) and the Clinton Foundation along with Bezos and Soros. They want to chip us all and are looking to put this in for all children and sell it as safety for your child.
The biill get this 6666 is on the house floor for tracking us and door to door vaccinations when it comes out mandatory wise if we were in the vicinity of a positive tested person.

Mugs do you really believe CARES Act was implemented Jan of 2019? That would mean the US knew this was going to happen over a year ago. that is quite a conspiracy theory. That is in the article you posted. I find that very very hard to believe and I know you are a smart man.amugs wrote:Jman,

Happy mothers day to all moms. Its especially hard being we cannot see our parents or hug them. I havent seen my mom and dad face to face since Early March and they did not want contact then so the last time I hugged my mom was Christmas. They won't let us visit till there's a vaccine which concerns me very much being that could be years from now. Their granddaughter will be a preteen by then, they can certainly take her for a few weeks when this is over LOL Hey they offered!

Solar implications for years to come? Possibly if looking/researching past history of such.
Spaceweather which is run by NASA and NOAA!!
100 DAYS WITHOUT SUNSPOTS: 2020 is not even 5 months old. Already there have been 100 days without sunspots. This is a sign that Solar Minimum is underway. So far this year, the sun has been blank 76% of the time, a rate surpassed only once before in the Space Age. Last year, 2019, the sun was blank 77% of the time. Two consecutive years of record-setting spotlessness adds up to a very deep Solar Minimum, indeed.
Said this 4 years ago and the influence on the weather patterns have been taking hold for the past couple of years now. Meridional flow of the jet.

Jman thank you for the compliment and believe me I would not post information if I did not research this. It was from the congressional record and report in fact introduced on Jan 24th ,the CARES act. We can not be blinded by the smokes and mirrors that has been and cotunues to be put up by some of our state and federal goblvt officials.

Watch this video about Gates and his Giant Squid reach on World Health. Alternative motivations to say the least. It doesn't get int his massive affects on Agriculture, Tech or Education. John D of present times, same script, same history being made but more!
23 minutes of Holy ??? IMO.

Safety yes but they have few I mean 3, 5, 7 to no cases in these counties. There is no safe aspect here that needs to be addressed. NYC and urban areas absolutely yes be careful but not these rural areas that have had few and continue to have few to no cases. The intent from the beginning was to curb the infection, stop the hospitals from being overrun, and keep the public safe. Guess what they had more cases of the pneumonia than COVID during these past 2 months in a majority of these counties in the regions AC outlined. Oswego, Delaware, Erie, Adirondack region etc etc. If you were to read the decree EO-exective order- he signed as did many governors u would think they were commies. In a nutshell the only means as to why any citizen is to leave their home is to get necessary foods, medicines, medical care, or a deemed a necessary worker. So if I went for a walk I am breaking the law, if I did yardwork on my own property I am breaking the law, if I talked to my neighbor sitting on my lawn and he sat on his across the street 20'wide I am breaking the law. Read the decree and you'll be enlightened to the control they did impose but PD were like there is no way to control all of this.mwilli wrote:Better to be safe(re-opening)than be sorry later(virus is back)

Re: Banter Thread 5.0
I said last week I wasn’t going to post my thoughts on the reopening issue anymore as I’ve said all I have to say. I’m sticking to that. But in order to just add some perspective to any ongoing discussions here: Everyone should understand no matter what position you take on this reopening issue, that it is already underway. Many states are largely re-opened (with guidelines) at this point. Georgia has been reopened three weeks with no significant spike in cases. Florida’s beaches are packed. Dine-in restaurants just reopened in California. Dr. Fauci when asked by Senator Alexander indicated its very possible schools will be ready to open in the Fall.
So at this point whether you want to reopen quick, slow, or somewhere in between, keep in mind the die is sort of cast; the process is underway at varying rates In various places so whatever is going to happen. . . Is going to happen.
Have a great day and stay safe everyone!

I agree that the die is cast, the process is underway. It has to start at some point. I disagree with you on Florida's beaches being packed. My son lives in Fort Lauderdale, so I keep an eye on what's going on down there. Here is a live webcam shot of Miami Beach and South Beach, about as far from packed as you can get.

Here's south beach

Key west looks like a ghost town

How about Rio de Janeiro's famous Copacabana Beach

Might have to watch an ad before cam loads.Click on earth cam network on top and you can see how things look in other states and countrys, all with live feeds.Things look surprisingly quiet in most locations judging by the feeds I have been looking at.

Yep Doc even with places reopening that I hope doesn't happen to soon here as we are the hardest hit and still going with the death toll and to many cases with children now getting sick and dying, there will be lots of fear and I don't think that will end anytime soon!
