Re: Thursday's Mothrazilla, Part II: First Forecast
Same here. It has been snowing literally all day since sunrise, although it has only accumulated 1 inch. But I have watched the snow falling all day out my window and it has been positively beautiful, peaceful, and calming.billg315 wrote:Another wave of Light to Moderate Snow passing through here. Again, not really adding to the totals much as these have been short-lived snow showers, but they have provided a great backdrop to the day out my window as I work from home today.

As others have said, not adding too much to overall totals, although this latest band will push me over 6 inches for this storm. That will bring me to over 70 inches of snow this winter. Absolutely bonkers!
This storm may have been my favorite yet. Don't get me wrong, I loved getting close to 3 feet of snow at the beginning of the month. It scratched an itch that hasn't been scratched in a LONG time up here.
But it's kind of like steak (hear me out). Sometimes, on special occasions, you splurge on a very nice Filet Mignon or Porterhouse steak at a 5 star restaurant. It's absolutely worth it, but when the bill comes you have to make your peace with it.
But most of the time, a decent chuck steak will get the job done if seasoned and prepared properly.
The 2/1 storm was my Filet Mignon, and this storm was my chuck steak. They both have their place, but 9/10 times I get the chuck steak, save some money (or in this case, back pain), and am damn happy with it.
Now I'm hungry....
Love the analogies in here!!
What I noticed about this winter is everyone at some point cashed in. It's not like SNJ hasn't had any snow, or that N&W of NYC is consistently jackpotting. Its pretty spread out.
100% correct. While the near misses are always a part of the SNJ winter story, the real story this winter is that the snow has returned to the Shore. Gonna grab another inch from 4 pm thru 7-8 pm today and not really notice, add that to the 2-3" from yesterday in just 1.5-2 hours of snow and we are sitting at 20" on the season. On the month in fact. And with more to come I think.
And here's my analogy:
My kids are no longer snow starved! Like a croc that's taken a zeb, they're actually sated for a bit.

4.8 inch storm total, 3.3 inches today. 17 inches now otg.
Loved this storm. Almost 30 hours of continuous snow. 55.3 inches for the season. A great three week stretch. Hoping for another 2-3 on Monday.

Re: Thursday's Mothrazilla, Part II: First Forecast
Same been at work all day. Just got home and measured. An additional 1.5" fell today but its falling very moderately right now. Yesterday I ended with a modest 4.25” What an unbelievable day today watching it snow basically all day long. Just like a Vermont ski town USA. @DAYBLAZER I absolutely loved your steak analogy. So apropos except im going to say todays 1.5" was more like a good marinated skirt steak cooked on high heat (600*)over my grill for about 2-2:30 mins per side instead of beginning of the month being the A5 Wagyu. I wouldnt be surprised to see another 1-1.5" tonight.

Re: Thursday's Mothrazilla, Part II: First Forecast
Added another 1/2” for me. 4.25” yesterday and 2” today Totaling 6.25”. Great system. Really loved the fact that it snowed all day today from sun up to sun down. That doesn’t happen by me very often. Have a great weekend. Let’s see how Monday trends

Re: Thursday's Mothrazilla, Part II: First Forecast
Snow showers on and off today.
Last night at 11PM had a light one as we were driving home from a freinds.
6" total here from 36 hours of wintry precipitation!! If that dry air at 500 over NNJ. LHV did not inhibit the snow growth we would have had 7-10" IMO. They came up and did not produce whatbthe radar echoes were showing.
NAM did a very good job with the storm overall for sniffing out the warm layer, the frontogenesis banding as well.

Re: Thursday's Mothrazilla, Part II: First Forecast
It was six inches up here; then there was a last burst that coated the driveway again...maybe a quarter inch more. As some said, a nice storm that provided that gentle, >than a day snow. Sat morning there was snow around 11 am that did not amount to anything but a dusting. A good winter so far.
